Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals in the Super Over in the IPL 2025 match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. Rajasthan had scored 11 runs in the Super Over, but Delhi won the match in just four balls. KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs came for Delhi in the Super Over and Stubbs hit a six to give Delhi the win. This is the first time since 2022 that the result of a match in the IPL has been decided through a Super Over. With this win, Delhi's team has come on top of the points table. It has 10 points with five wins and one loss in six matches.

Delhi's record is better in Super Over.

So far 15 matches have been tied in IPL. Delhi has a good record in Super Over and has won four out of five matches. Before defeating Rajasthan in the Super Over, Delhi had defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2021, Punjab Kings in 2020, Kolkata Knight Riders in 2019, and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2013. However, in 2013, it lost to RCB in the Super Over. Delhi's team has become the team to win the most Super Over matches in IPL. In this case, it surpassed Punjab Kings, which has achieved success three times in four matches.

The match ended in a draw after the stipulated overs.

After the end of 20 overs between Delhi and Rajasthan, the score was tied, after which it was decided to decide the match through a Super Over. Delhi had scored 188 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. Rajasthan's team looked in good shape with half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana, but the team could only score 188 runs for four wickets in the stipulated overs. In this way, the match ended in a draw. However, in the super over, the Rajasthan team could not play even six balls and lost two wickets in five balls. In this way, Delhi had no problem in achieving the target in the super over.

Excitement of Super Over

The Rajasthan team came first to bat in the super over. Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag came to bat from Rajasthan, while Delhi handed the ball to fast bowler Mitchell Starc. No run came on the first ball and Hetmyer hit a four on the second ball. Hetmyer took a run on the third ball and Parag came on strike. Parag hit a four on the fourth ball, but it was declared a no-ball. Starc bowled a wide ball on the free hit, but Parag ran and was run out. Parag was out after scoring four runs and Yashasvi Jaiswal came to the crease. On the next ball, Hetmyer hit a shot and ran for two runs. However, only one run was completed and the team could not play the super over completely. Rajasthan scored 11 runs in five balls. KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs came from Delhi Capitals to defend the target in the super over. Rajasthan handed the ball to Sandeep Sharma. KL Rahul took two runs off the first ball. Rahul hit a four on the next ball. One run came on the third ball and Stubbs came on strike. Stubbs hit a six on the fourth ball to give the team victory.

Yashasvi-Nitish's half-century went in vain.

Earlier, while chasing the target, Rajasthan had a good start and did not lose any wickets till the powerplay. Captain Sanju Samson, however, retired hurt after scoring 31 runs off 19 balls and did not return to the field again. Riyan Parag returned to the pavilion after scoring eight runs. After this, Yashasvi along with Nitish Rana shared a 50+ run partnership. Yashasvi hit his second half-century of this season, but he was dismissed after scoring 51 runs off 37 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes.

After this, Nitish Rana took charge and completed his half-century in 26 balls. Nitish also could not last long and was dismissed after scoring 51 runs with the help of six fours and two sixes in 28 balls. Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer were at the crease for Rajasthan and were set. Rajasthan had to score nine runs to win in the last over, but Mitchell Starc bowled brilliantly and gave only eight runs. Two runs were needed on the last ball. Jurel hit a shot and ran for two runs, but could not complete the second run. Jurel was dismissed after scoring 24 runs with the help of two sixes in 17 balls, while Hetmyer returned unbeaten after scoring 15 runs. Mitchell Starc, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each for Rajasthan.

Delhi's innings

Rajasthan won the toss in this match and decided to bowl first. No batsman could play a big innings for Delhi, but they performed well in pieces due to which the team was successful in making a challenging score. Abhishek Porel scored the highest 49 runs for Delhi, while KL Rahul contributed 38 runs. Batting first, Jack Fraser McGurk and Porel gave the team a good start, but Joffra Archer dismissed McGurk for nine runs. Soon after this, Karun Nair was run out without opening the account. This was the fourth time in the IPL that Karun returned to the pavilion on zero.
