The growing closeness between the US and Taiwan military is a cause of concern for China. Taiwan has admitted for the first time that US troops are training its military. China is quite restless with the ongoing military training between the two armies. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has recommended Taiwan to become a member of the United Nations because of its democratic success. America has taken this step when China has opened all its horses to unite Taiwan. This can be gauged from the fact that the Chinese army has encroached on the Taiwan border about 150 times in a month. This has strained relations between Taiwan and China.

 

These three steps of America have been the backbone of China

 

1- Prof. Harsh V Pant said that the President of Taiwan publicly acknowledged for the first time that the US is training Taiwanese security forces. This statement of the Taiwanese President comes at a time when US President Joe Biden recently warned China that he is determined to defend Taiwan. Biden spoke openly on Taiwan for the first time since assuming the presidency. After this statement of the US President, China said that America is using Taiwan as a suicide bomber. After this statement of China, the relationship between Dragon and America has become tenser regarding Taiwan.

 

2- Prof Pant said that after this statement of the US President, America has advocated for making Taiwan a member of the United Nations. This is a major change in US policy regarding Taiwan. The US has given a clear message to China that it will protect Taiwan in the event of an attack. The indication of the Biden administration is clear that the US military will support Taiwan in the event of war. Not only this, America has gone a step further and advocated the membership of the United Nations for Taiwan. This is a major change in the American outlook on Taiwan. If we look at the US strategy regarding Taiwan, it has been changing from time to time, but the Biden administration has announced its clear policy on Taiwan.

 

3- Prof. Pant said that these three steps of America are affecting China. The dragon may not have realized that the Biden administration would turn in favor of Taiwan in this way. First, the Biden administration made a big comment on the security of Taiwan. After this statement of Biden, the US Army started training the Taiwan Army. After this, the US advocated the inclusion of Taiwan in the United Nations. Due to these steps of America, relations between China and America have become very tense.

 

Many changes in America's policy regarding Taiwan

 

America's policy regarding Taiwan has not always been the same. There has been a kind of strategic ambiguity in US policy regarding Taiwan. Think of it this way, in 1979 the then President Jimmy Carter ended official relations with Taiwan to establish diplomatic relations with China. At that time the US Congress passed the Taiwan Relations Act. This law allowed that the US could sell defensive weapons to Taiwan.

 

 Former President Bill Clinton was in favor of Taiwan's independence. If seen after the Biden administration, there was tremendous tension between the US and China regarding Taiwan during Clinton's tenure. In 1996, elections were being held in Taiwan. At that time China conducted missile tests targeting Taiwan and tried to put pressure on it. After this move of China, Clinton sent a large warplane towards Taiwan and sent a message to China that America would not compromise on Taiwan's security. At that time America demonstrated massive power.

 

Similarly, in 2001, the then US President George W. Bush also cleared his stand on Taiwan. Bush clearly said that America will do whatever is necessary to save Taiwan. Such a situation arises because the American strategy regarding Taiwan is of a different type. America keeps China in a dilemma. China is always apprehensive about how harsh the US will react if it attacks Taiwan. This is the reason why China keeps provoking America again and again regarding Taiwan. Taiwan and America came very close to each other during Trump's tenure. This was seen as a sign of a major change in America's policy regarding Taiwan.
