Twitter seeks 3-month deferment: Fear of social media superpower - IT rules will end freedom of expression, endangering the safety of our employees

Twitter has broken silence over the toolkit controversy and social media guidelines. The social media company said on Thursday that the government should give 3 months deferment to implement the deadline. At the same time, he also expressed concern about the danger of freedom of expression over the rules. Recently, the company is also concerned about the action taken by Delhi Police on Twitter offices in Delhi and Gurgaon.

 

Twitter responded on 4 issues

 

1. On the action of Delhi Police

Twitter said that we are concerned about the safety of our staff in India. The incident that happened in India with our employees right now, apart from this, we are worried about the freedom of expression of the people to whom we serve. However, Twitter did not directly name the Delhi Police but said that we are concerned about the threatening nature of the police in many societies in India and around the world.

 

2. On social media rules

We are ready to implement the rules, but it will be completed with the principles of transparency. We will continue our dialogue with the Government of India on the entire matter. We believe that it is necessary to adopt a cooperative attitude from both sides in this matter. We appeal to the Government of India to give us 3 months so that we can implement these rules.

 

3. On the appointment of an officer in India

In the guidelines, social media platforms have been asked to appoint a Graduate Officer in India. We are concerned about this rule that the Graves officer will be criminally accountable for the content on the platform. By this rule, this reach will increase to dangerous levels.

 

4. How to apply the guideline

We are committed to the people of India. Our service has proved to be an effective tool for communication in India. It has also become a source of support during the pandemic. We will try to implement these rules to continue our services. We will try for the rules that we can apply.
