Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that the country is "guaranteed to become the third largest economy". He said that India is set to emerge as the world's third-largest economy and this is true, irrespective of who forms the government after the 2024 elections.
Significantly, in September last year, India had overtaken the United Kingdom to become the world's fifth-largest economy. The United States, China, Japan, and Germany occupy the top four spots, in that order.
India will become the third economy
Jairam Ramesh said that giving personal guarantees on arithmetical imperative is the specialty of Modi ji. India's emergence as the third-largest economy this decade has been predicted for a long time now and is guaranteed – whoever forms the next government.
Counted qualities of INDIA
Meanwhile, Ramesh also asserted that if the 26-party opposition India bloc comes to power, there would be a "significant difference" in development compared to the path the country would follow under the prime minister's BJP. Highlighting the merits of the opposition alliance, he further said that the main difference is the kind of development that India guarantees. Growth that is more socially inclusive, growth that creates jobs that don't end, growth that increases incomes everywhere, and ecologically sustainable growth.
India made to defeat BJP
The Congress and 25 opposition parties have come together to form INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) to counter the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and prevent it from winning a third consecutive term at the Centre.
PM Modi said this
Inaugurating the 'Bharat Mandapam', a redeveloped International Exhibition and Convention Center (IECC) at Delhi's Pragati Maidan on Wednesday, PM Modi said that the entire country is seeing the results of the work done by his government since coming to power in 2014.
PM Modi had said that at the beginning of our first term, India was ranked 10th among global economies. In the second term, today India is the fifth largest economy in the world. Based on my track record, I also assure the country that in our third term, India will reach among the top three economies and this is my guarantee.
