There is a possibility of a cyclonic storm to the south of Porbandar in Gujarat. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday informed that a depression is forming over the southeast Arabian Sea (south of Porbandar), which is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm.

Where is the center being built?

The Meteorological Department said that a depression has formed about 920 km west-southwest of Goa, 1,120 km south-southwest of Mumbai, 1,160 km south of Porbandar, and 1,520 km south of Karachi at 5.30 am.

possibility of a cyclonic storm

It is very likely to move northwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over the east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea during the next 24 hours, he said.

There is a possibility of an impact on the entry of monsoon

The IMD had said on Monday that the formation of a low-pressure cyclone over the southeast Arabian Sea and its intensification could have a serious impact on the progress of the monsoon towards the Kerala coast. However, the Meteorological Department did not give a possible date for the onset of monsoon in Kerala.

Here, Skymet Weather said that the onset of monsoon in Kerala could be on June 8 or June 9. Earlier, Skymet had predicted the onset of monsoon over Kerala on June 7. However, he had said that there could be a margin of three days.

Let us tell you that the southwest monsoon usually enters Kerala on June 1 with a decrease or increase of about seven days. At the same time, in the middle of May, the IMD had said that the monsoon could reach Kerala by June 4.

If we look at the records of the previous years, the southeast monsoon arrived on May 29 last year, June 3 in 2021, June 1 in 2020, June 8 in 2019, and May 29 in 2018.

Here, scientists say that a slight delay in reaching Kerala does not mean that the monsoon will reach other parts of the country late.
