DeepFake: Government in action mode against DeepFake, Ashwini Vaishnav said after meeting with social media companies - preparing to make law

Ashwini Vaishnav on Deep Fake The central government is now going to adopt a strict attitude regarding deep fakes. Union Communications, Electronics, and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in a press conference today that the government is going to take big steps against it soon.

 

The minister said that soon the government is going to make provisions for laws and penalties for the platforms that create and host such deepfake videos.

 

Deepfake emerged as a new threat

Ashwini Vaishnav today chaired a meeting with social media platforms and stakeholders on the issue of deep fakes. Speaking on deep fakes, Ashwini Vaishnav said that deep fakes have emerged as a new threat in society.

 

The minister said that we need to take immediate action and we have decided that within a few weeks, we will try to prepare a draft to bring deepfakes under the legal ambit. He said today the talks focused on four aspects, which include...

Ashwini Vaishnav said that a meeting was also held today with social media companies NASSCOM and professors working on Artificial Intelligence (AI) against deepfakes.

 

What is deepfake?

Deepfake refers to doctored media that is created using AI (Artificial Intelligence) to misrepresent someone. In this, an attempt is made to show something wrong by digitally manipulating the face or doing various types of editing.

 

Recently, several 'deepfake' videos targeting leading actresses and other big people have gone viral, with Rashmika Mandhana's video causing the most controversy. After this, PM Modi also expressed concern over this.
