The conference will be held for two days

It is noteworthy that India is presiding over the G-20 countries this year. In such a situation, leaders of many countries, including US President Joe Biden, will gather in Delhi for the G-20 summit to be held on September 9 and 10. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are not attending the summit.

According to sources, Manmohan Singh, who was prime minister during the two terms of the Congress-led UPA between 2004 and 2014, has been invited to the G-20 leaders' dinner on Saturday.

Foreign policy in my time…

On India's G-20 presidency, the former PM said that during his time foreign policy had become more important than domestic politics. He said that it is necessary to exercise restraint while using diplomacy for party politics. Manmohan Singh said I am very happy that India has got the chairmanship of G-20 in my lifetime and I will witness India hosting world leaders for the G-20 summit.

Domestic politics became important

The 90-year-old former PM said that foreign policy has always been an important element of India's governance framework, but it is fair to say that it has become more relevant and important than ever before for domestic politics. India's position in the world should be an issue in domestic politics. He said it is equally important to exercise restraint in using diplomacy and foreign policy for party or personal politics.

Central government right

Manmohan Singh said the Center has done the right thing in handling the government's tough diplomatic position on the Ukraine-Russia war. He said that when there is a war between two or more countries, there is pressure on other countries to select sides. He said that he believe that India has done the right thing by keeping our sovereign and economic interests first while appealing for peace.

discuss these issues

Former PM Manmohan Singh said that the G-20 was never conceived as a forum to settle security-related disputes. It is important for the G-20 to set aside security differences and focus on policy coordination to address the challenges of climate, inequality, and trust in global trade.

Refusal to advise PM

On China relations and President Xi Jinping not attending the summit, he said he expected Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take all necessary steps to protect India's territorial and sovereign integrity. At the same time, he refused to give any advice to the government.

He said that it was not right for me to advise the Prime Minister on how to handle complex diplomatic matters. He said that it is unfortunate that Chinese President Xi Jinping has decided not to participate in the G-20 summit. But I do hope that the Prime Minister will take all necessary steps to protect India's territorial and sovereign integrity and reduce bilateral tensions.
