Punjab declared a disaster-affected state, lakhs of acres of agriculture destroyed; more than 1400 villages in the grip of floods

Bhagwant Mann's government of Punjab has declared the entire state as a disaster affected state. Along with this, all educational institutions in Punjab have been closed till September 7 due to floods. 1400 villages in 23 districts are affected by floods.

 

Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab Raghav Chadha has released Rs 3.25 crore from the MPLADS fund for the flood-affected people. 3.75 acres of crops have been washed away by the water due to floods. All District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMA) have been instructed to take prompt and adequate measures to provide relief to the affected people.

 

Red alert issued in many districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for many districts of the state, including Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Moga, Ludhiana, Barnala, and Sangrur.

 

Along with this, telecom operators have been asked to ensure mobile and landline connectivity. Officials have been instructed to ensure people and essential services in their respective areas. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will visit Punjab tomorrow and meet farmers.

 

Relief camps set up in Rupnagar

 

The Rupnagar district administration is appealing to the people of the villages situated on the banks of the Satluj river to move to safer places. Relief camps have been set up in five villages by the administration for the people of the villages situated on the banks of the Shatrughan. Complete arrangements have been made for the people's accommodation, food, and health services in these camps. The administration has set up relief camps in Bhanam, Bhalan, Nanagara, Palasi, and Singhpur.

 

The water level of the Bhakra Dam has reached about 1,678 feet, while the maximum water level is 1,680 feet, which is only two feet below the danger mark.
