An Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai developed a technical fault in one of its engines. Due to this, passengers had to disembark during the scheduled stop of the plane at Kolkata airport on Tuesday. Flight AI180 arrived at the airport on time at 0045, but the flight was delayed due to a technical fault in the left engine. At around 0520, all the passengers were asked to disembark from the plane. The captain of the plane told the passengers that this decision was taken given flight safety.

What is the matter?

Air India flight AI180 departed from San Francisco airport as scheduled. However, on reaching Kolkata airport at 12:45 am, its left engine developed a technical fault. More than four hours later, at 5:20 am, I was told that all the passengers would have to disembark from the plane.

Fear prevails after the Ahmedabad accident.

The incident took place five days ago when Air India flight AI-171, which took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai International Airport in Ahmedabad for Gatwick Airport in London, collided with the hostel building of BJ Medical College just seconds after takeoff. The crashed Air India plane had 242 people on board, including 230 passengers, 10 cabin crew members, and two pilots. All except British citizen Vishwas Kumar Ramesh died.

Earlier yesterday, Air India flight AI315 going from Hong Kong to Delhi had to return to its original location after a technical problem was suspected mid-flight. On Sunday, the flight coming from London to Chennai also had a problem.

Earlier on Sunday, British Airways flight BA35, which departed from London's Heathrow Airport to Chennai (India), experienced a technical problem just minutes after takeoff. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner took off at 1:16 pm (British time) with a delay of 36 minutes, but at an altitude of about 15,000 feet, the pilots found signs of a problem in the flap system. As per the safety protocol, the plane made several rounds in a holding pattern over the Bay of Dover. During this time, the plane remained at 12,000 feet for about 30 minutes and for a safe landing, extra fuel was dropped in the air itself, so that the weight could be reduced. After a total of about one hour and 45 minutes, the plane landed safely on the runway of Heathrow. All the passengers and crew were disembarked safely.

Lufthansa flight had to take a U-turn and return to Frankfurt Airport.

A Lufthansa flight coming to Hyderabad also had to take a U-turn and land back at Frankfurt Airport on Sunday evening. Flight LH752 had departed from Germany. It was to land at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on Monday morning. Lufthansa Airlines had told news agency ANI that we did not get permission to land in Hyderabad. That is why the plane took a U-turn and returned.

An email with a bomb threat was received.

According to official sources, Lufthansa flight LH 752 received a bomb threat email at Hyderabad airport on June 15, 2025, at 6:01 pm. After the bomb threat, an assessment committee was formed and all procedures were followed as per SOP.
