On October 8, 2022, an explosion occurs on the Kerch Bridge connecting Russia with Crimea. A part of the bridge collapses in the blast. How important it is militarily, can be understood from Russia's missile attacks on Ukraine. Russia has fired more than 80 missiles at several cities in Ukraine to avenge the Kerch Bridge.

It all starts with the referendums in eastern Ukraine i.e. Donetsk and Luhansk and Kherson and Zaporizhia in the south. Putin announces the merger of these regions with Russia on 1 October. In response, the Kerch Bridge explodes.

What happened on the bridge connecting Russia to Crimea?

Russia annexed the Ukrainian territory of Crimea in 2014. After this, the Kerch bridge was built in the sea to connect this area with Russia. This bridge is seen as a symbol of Russia's occupation of Crimea.

On October 8, 2022, a massive explosion occurs on the Kerch bridge connecting Russia with Crimea. The sound of the explosion on the bridge was heard several kilometers away. A video of it has also gone viral on social media. In this, several fuel tanks of freight trains and railway lines are on fire. At the same time, a part of the roadway bridge has fallen into the sea.

Three people in a passing car were killed in the blast. Russia's supply line was cut due to the collapse of the bridge. This is the biggest attack against Russia since the destruction of the Moskva missile cruiser on the Ukrainian front in April.

Many speculations are being made about how and who blew up Crimea's Kerch Bridge. Russian President Putin blamed Ukraine for the attack, calling it a "terrorist attack". At the same time, Ukraine has said that it is not behind this attack.

Russia claimed soon after the attack that the attack was carried out with a truck bomb. Despite the Russian claim, it is not clear when and by whom the attack was carried out.

In a video released on social media, a truck is seen passing through the bridge. Russia claims that the bridge was blown up by this truck. Suddenly a ball of fire is seen behind the trucks and vehicles passing through the bridge. That is, there is a big explosion, but looking at the footage carefully, it does not seem that this explosion happened from the truck.

Contrary to the claim that Russia's bridge was blown up by a truck, many Western experts believe that the Kerch bridge was blown up by a missile attack or a drone attack. According to these experts, Russia is calling it a terrorist attack on Ukraine, saying the reason for blowing up this bridge is a truck attack.

Russia does not want people to understand that Ukraine has blown up this bridge with missiles or drone attacks because it will be seen as a strong challenge to Ukraine's power and Russia.

Putin calls it a terrorist attack a day ago

Russian President Vladimir Putin has blamed Ukraine for the bombings on the bridge in Crimea, calling it a terrorist attack. He said that Ukraine's Special Service had hatched a conspiracy to blow up the bridge connecting Crimea and Russia.

Aleksandr Bastrykin, chairman of the Russian Inquiry Committee, said the Ukrainian Special Service and citizens of Russia and other countries were involved in the attack. He said the truck used in the attack on the bridge had come from Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, North Ossetia, and Russia's southernmost region of Krasnodar.

Ukraine has vehemently denied Russia's allegations. Mikhail Podoliak, the adviser to the President of Ukraine, said the allegations were "extraordinary even for Russia."

About 4 months later, Russia fired several missiles while attacking Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. In this attack, more than 80 missiles were fired at at least 10 cities in Ukraine.

In addition to the capital Kyiv, Liv in western Ukraine, the Dnieper in central Ukraine, and Zaporizhia, Kherson, and Mykolaiv in the south, as well as several other cities, were targeted. There is also news of an explosion in the Black Sea port of Odesa.

The situation of Russia's attack was that except for Crimea, almost every city in Ukraine kept sounding the alarm of air strike alerts.

Ukrainian military chief General Valery Zaluzny said, 'The terrorist country Russia has attacked many cities of Ukraine with air strikes and lethal missiles. In the morning the attacker fired more than 80 missiles. Out of these 41 missiles were shot down by our air defense.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said five Ukrainian civilians were killed and 12 wounded in the Russian attacks. 'They are trying to destroy us and wipe us off the earth,' Zelensky said.

In a video message released after the attack, Zelensky accused Russia of using Iranian drones, saying the Russian military had two main targets - targeting Ukrainian energy targets and civilians.

The root of the fresh tension is the referendum in 4 provinces of Ukraine

After the attack on Ukraine on 24 February 2022, Russia occupied 4 of its main areas. These areas are - Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine ie Donbas region and Kherson and Zaporizhia in the south.

In these four regions, Russia held referendums from September 23 to September 27, and on October 1, in a special ceremony in the Kremlin, President Putin announced the merger of these four provinces into Russia. Ukraine and Western countries have questioned Russia's referendum and refused to accept it.
