Wimbledon: Djokovic wins 32nd consecutive match at Wimbledon, unseeded Eubanks upsets Tsitsipas

Serbia's veteran tennis player Novak Djokovic has confirmed his place in the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Open. Djokovic defeated Hubert Hurkacz of Poland, winning his 32nd consecutive win in this tournament. The 36-year-old defending champion defeated Hurkaj in a four-set contest. He won the match 7-6(6) 7-6(6) 5-7 6-4. Djokovic, winner of 23 Grand Slams, will face seventh seed Andrey Rublev of Russia in the quarterfinals.

 

On one hand, Djokovic won, but on the other hand fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece had to face defeat. He was upset by the unseeded Christopher Eubanks of America. Eubanks is playing in the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time. He has made it to the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the first time. Eubanks defeated Tsitsipas 3-6, 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Tsitsipas is the first top-5 ranked player Eubanks has beaten.

 

Medvedev and Rybakina got walkover

World number three player Daniil Medvedev has reached the quarterfinals. He was up against Jiri Lehka of the Czech Republic. Leheka was ruled out of the match due to injury. Medvedev was leading 6-4, 6-2 at the time of stoppage. He got a walkover. Among the women, defending champion Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan also got a walkover. Against them, Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil was ruled out with an injury after just five games. At that point, Rybakina was leading 3-1. She will face Tunisia's Ons Jabeur in the quarterfinals.

 

Swiatek made it to the quarterfinals

World number-1 female player Inga Swiatek of Poland defeated 14th seed Belinda Bencic 6-7(4), 7-6(2), 6-3 to enter the quarter-finals of this grasscourt Grand Slam for the first time. She will now face wild card entrant Elina Svitolina of Ukraine. Svitolina defeated Victoria Azarenka of Belarus 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (9). Swiatek has won three championships at the French Open and one at the US Open.

 

American Madison's ninth consecutive win

American 25th seed Madison Keys halted a dream run to 16-year-old Russian qualifier Mira Andreeva in the fourth round. Madison won 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-2 in a match that lasted two hours and two minutes. He has won the ninth match in a row. A week earlier she had lifted her seventh WTA trophy. The last time Madison made it to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon was in 2015. She will now face the winner of the match between second seed Aryana Sabalenka and 21st seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.

 

Bopanna-Ebden in the last-16 of men's doubles

India's Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden have reached the last-16 round of men's doubles. They defeated Jacob and Johannes Mande of Britain 7–5, 6–3 in the second round. The Indo-Australian pair hit five aces during the match while the rival pair could only hit two. Bopanna-Ebden had defeated Argentina's Guillermo and Tomás Echeverri in the first round. However, the mixed doubles pair of Bopanna and Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada had to face defeat.
