A Heart-Stopping Incident from the Cricket Field: Umpire Stabbed to Death Over Run-Out Decision

Cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties, where no one can ever predict what might happen or when. It is not limited merely to hitting fours and sixes or taking wickets; rather, the very reputation of the sport begins to suffer when incidents emerge that leave everyone utterly stunned. One such case has recently come to light, leaving the entire cricketing world in shock.

This incident occurred during a local match in Visakhapatnam, where a dispute arose between players over a run-out decision. Although the two on-field umpires initially managed to defuse the situation, the matter escalated tragically when one of the umpires was subsequently stabbed to death. Ajit Babu and Budumuri Chiranjeevi were the two umpires officiating the match.

Umpire Murdered Over Run-Out Decision

The incident began during a local cricket match in Visakhapatnam, where a heated argument erupted between players from two different localities over a run-out decision. Amidst the commotion, spectators also rushed onto the field. Both umpires attempted to calm the situation, but an irate spectator began hurling verbal abuse at them. The Circle Inspector stated that the two umpires intervened and successfully resolved the dispute right there on the field. However, one of the spectators—identified as Kanta Kishore—remained enraged and continued to verbally abuse both the umpires and the players.

According to the police, the accused—26-year-old Kanta Kishore—later called the umpires aside, ostensibly to settle the matter once and for all. After the match concluded, Ajit Babu, Chiranjeevi, and a few friends went to meet him. A fresh argument ensued, during which Kishore suddenly stabbed Ajit Babu in the chest with a knife, causing him to collapse instantly. Chiranjeevi managed to flee for his life, sustaining injuries in the process; however, umpire Ajit succumbed to his wounds.

Although Ajit Babu was rushed to Apollo Hospital, doctors there pronounced him dead upon arrival. Ajit Babu's brother has alleged that Kanta Kishore committed the murder while under the influence of alcohol. Based on the complaint filed by Ajit's father, the police registered a murder case against the teenager and launched a search for the accused. The accused is currently absconding.
