Amidst the devastation caused by devastating floods and landslides in North Bengal, and the deadly attack on a BJP MP and MLA who had gone to meet the victims, Bengal Governor Dr. C.V. Anand Bose met with President Draupadi Murmu in Delhi on Wednesday.
During the meeting at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Governor briefed her on the current law and order situation in the state. Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Governor targeted the state government, saying that there is a reign of terror in Bengal.
The Governor said, "I have informed the Chief Minister several times that the police are not functioning properly." The Governor said that he has informed the Chief Minister about this issue several times, but no action is being taken. "My priority is a violence-free and corruption-free Bengal." Bose said, "I have informed the President about the events in Bengal and have submitted a factual report."
What we have witnessed on the streets of Bengal, both in the form of natural disasters and man-made atrocities, is shocking. The police's job is to maintain law and order. On the question of imposing President's rule (Article 356) in the state, the Governor stated that no decision or discussion with the President has yet been made on this matter.
Responding to the Governor's remarks, senior Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee said that Bose is acting as an agent of the BJP. The state government is not affected by what the Governor says.
Action will be taken.
Regarding the attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh, allegedly by Trinamool Congress workers, while visiting flood victims in North Bengal, the Governor said that on Tuesday, I had given the police a 24-hour deadline to take action (arrest) against the culprits, which has now passed. Necessary action will be taken.
