The Thane Crime Branch had encountered the accused Akshay Shinde on 23 September at around 6:15 pm, which he died. The Thane Crime Branch had taken Akshay from Taloja jail to Badlapur. The government had said that Akshay snatched the revolver from the police and fired, on which the police fired in self-defense, in which Akshay was killed.
After this incident, Akshay's family alleged that he was beaten up badly in custody. An encounter was done to suppress the matter. They were not even allowed to see his dead body.
