Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir has refused to give any information on the return of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah to international cricket. Bumrah was ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025, on this Gambhir said that the medical staff are the right people to give updates about the fast bowler.
Remind that Jasprit Bumrah suffered back pain during the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the match played in Sydney, Bumrah did not bowl on the last day he took 32 wickets in that series. 32-year-old Bumrah was named in India's preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy.
Then the BCCI confirmed that the fast bowler has been ruled out of the upcoming Champions Trophy due to a back injury. After the Indian team's 3-0 win over England, Gautam Gambhir reacted to Bumrah's absence.
Gautam Gambhir's statement
"Bumrah is out. But I cannot give you all the information because only the medical team will be able to tell how long he will be out. The medical team at NCA will decide about Bumrah."
Other players have a chance.
Gambhir accepted that the Indian team will miss its main fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah in the Champions Trophy. The head coach also said that other players have a great opportunity to prove themselves."
Of course, we wanted Bumrah in the team at any cost. We know what he can do. He is a world-class player. But some things are not in your hands. That's why other youngsters like Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh have a chance to understand their responsibility and do something for the country.
Shami's experience will come in handy.
The Indian head coach said that even though Bumrah did not support him, Mohammed Shami's experience will come in handy for the team in the upcoming Champions Trophy. Mohammed Shami returned to the Indian team after the ODI World Cup 2023 and was seen regaining his rhythm.
Gambhir said, 'Sometimes you keep an eye on such an opportunity. Harshit Rana has performed brilliantly throughout the series. He took some important wickets. We all know what Arshdeep Singh can do. So yes, Bumrah will be missed, but then Mohammed Shami's return is a matter of happiness. Shami's experience will come in handy for the team.'
India's squad for the Champions Trophy
The BCCI has made some changes in the 15-member Indian team for the Champions Trophy. Harshit Rana was included as an alternative to Jasprit Bumrah, while Yashasvi Jaiswal was made a traveling reserve and Varun Chakravarthy was given a place in the main team.
