On the rising water level in Yamuna, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called an emergency meeting and instructed him to evacuate people from the affected areas and provide all possible facilities in relief centers. He appealed to the people living in low-lying areas to vacate their houses. Relief centers have been set up at many places in Delhi. If needed, nearby schools have been instructed to make relief centers. On the other hand, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena also inspected the flood-affected area on Wednesday. Along with this, a meeting of DDMA has also been called today i.e. on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the water level of the Yamuna in Delhi has crossed 208.05 meters, which is higher than the Central Water Commission's estimate of 207.99 meters (between 4 am and 6 am on July 13). According to the information received from the Delhi government, this increase was recorded at 10 pm on the old railway bridge.

CM said that many areas including Boat Club, Monastery Market, Neeli Chhatri Temple, Yamuna Bazar, and Geeta Ghat have been waterlogged. A large amount of water was released on Tuesday. When it reaches Delhi, the water level of Yamuna will increase further. After this meeting held at the secretariat, in the presence of Revenue Minister Atishi and Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, Kejriwal said in a press conference that the water level in Yamuna is increasing and flood situation is prevailing in Delhi. It is not raining in Delhi for two-three days.

Whatever water is coming in Yamuna now, it is reaching Delhi via Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. All this water comes by opening the Hathinikund Barrage. We do not have much information about the condition of this barrage, so a letter has been written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah asking him to reduce the speed of water release in Hathini Kund. It is also necessary to remove water from there, but if the speed at which water is being sent towards Delhi is reduced, then the level of Yamuna can be stopped from rising further.

Things will improve in a day or two

Kejriwal said that shortly after writing the letter to Amit Shah, he received a call from Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. He told that Hathini Kund is just a barrage and there is no reservoir behind it. There is no facility to stop the water, so the water cannot be stopped. Now the water coming from Himachal Pradesh has started decreasing and the situation will improve in the coming one or two days.

people vacate the house

Kejriwal said that in the low-lying areas of Usmanpur, Badarpur Khadar, the people of the areas near the Yamuna should vacate their houses. Apart from this, slums around DND, Mayur Vihar, Main Pushta Road in Jagatpur, Bhelopur on Sarai Kale Khan, crematorium, Jain Mandir, Gyaspur, and Millennium Depot should also be vacated.

people should not go to see the flood

The CM said that it is also being seen that many people are going to see the floods and are taking selfies and videos. In this situation, people should not go there. If there is a sudden rise in the water level, then life can be in danger. The District Magistrates have been told that if needed, they can close the nearby schools and convert them into relief camps. If there is a need to acquire nearby Dharamshala and schools for toilets and baths, then it should be done.

There is no possibility of Yamuna water reaching residential areas

Kejriwal said that there is no possibility of Yamuna water reaching residential areas. If this happens, notice to vacate the house will be given ahead of time. At the local level too, our teams are warning people by making noises. Due to the increase in the water level of Yamuna, some drains may back up. This may cause waterlogging in some places. Tents have been set up in six districts of Delhi. All basic facilities have been arranged in the camp. NDRF's help is also being taken.

50 boats are stationed every two kilometers

Atishi said that the Delhi government has arranged 50 boats to provide immediate relief to the people in the flood-affected areas. All these boats have been deployed at a distance of two kilometers each from Palla to Okhla Barrage.

LG visited Yamuna

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena inspected the flood-affected area on Wednesday. He took stock of the rescue operations. He said that the NDRF team is ready to deal with every situation. The Lt Governor appealed to the people to keep patience. People are being evacuated from the submergence area. The Lieutenant Governor has also called a meeting of the DDMA on Thursday.
