Dhruv Jurel’s ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ Tattoo Steals the Spotlight; Pant’s 95m Six Damages Colombo Stadium Solar Panel

India declared their innings at 503/9 on the second day of the Colombo Test against Sri Lanka. Dhruv Jurel scored a century for the team. However, it took him 13 balls to score a single run after reaching 99. Upon completing his century, Jurel removed his helmet and displayed the 'Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan' tattoo on his left arm.

Earlier, Rishabh Pant scored 63 runs in his return to batting after recovering from injury. The highlight of his innings was a 95-meter six that struck the solar panels on the stadium roof. Pant also became the Indian wicketkeeper with the most Test runs scored overseas, surpassing MS Dhoni.

1. Jurel showed his tattoo after the century

After completing his second Test century, Dhruv Jurel displayed the tattoo on his left arm, which reads 'Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan'. As soon as he reached the milestone, Mohammed Siraj, who was at the other end, came over, and the two celebrated the moment with a hug.

After the day's play, Jurel explained the reason behind the celebration. He said, "My grandfather was a farmer, and my father was a soldier." He added, "I never want to forget my roots, and this celebration was entirely dedicated to them." Jurel's father is a retired soldier who fought in the 1999 Kargil War.

2. Jurel narrowly escapes run-out at 99

When Jurel was on 99, he played a delivery from Asitha Fernando towards mid-off and sprinted for a quick run. The fielder reached the ball rapidly and threw directly at the stumps. Jurel attempted to reach the crease with a full dive, but the throw missed the stumps. Thus, Jurel survived the run-out attempt and went on to complete his century.

After reaching 99, Jurel had to wait quite a while before finally completing his century. He took 13 balls to move from 99 to 100 runs.

3. Second Indian to score a century at No. 7 or lower in Sri Lanka

Jurel became the second Indian batsman to score a Test century while batting at No. 7 or lower in Sri Lanka. Before him, Hardik Pandya had scored 108 runs while batting at No. 7 during the Pallekele Test in 2017.

4. Jurel completes 600 Test runs

With his century in Colombo, Jurel crossed the 600-run mark in Test cricket. After 12 Tests, his average stands above 35. His first Test century came against the West Indies last year.

Jurel played a match-winning innings of 51 runs off 68 balls in the first Test against Sri Lanka. In the second Test, he scored an unbeaten 115. Thus, he recorded two consecutive scores of 50+ in the series.

Both of Jurel's 50+ scores in overseas Tests so far have come against Sri Lanka in this very series. He scored 51 runs in the first Test and an unbeaten 115 in the second.

5. Pant's 95-meter six hits a solar panel

Despite an injury, Rishabh Pant came out to bat on the second day. Sri Lankan fast bowler Lahiru Kumara bowled a short ball to him. Pant played a powerful pull shot over fine leg. The ball traveled about 95 meters, hit the stadium roof, and struck a solar panel. The ball went out of the ground, necessitating a replacement ball.

6. Pant surpasses Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Pant set the record for the most Test runs scored by an Indian wicketkeeper in overseas and neutral venues. He has now amassed 2,534 runs, surpassing MS Dhoni's tally of 2,496 runs.

Pant completed his half-century in 81 balls. This was his 21st half-century in Test cricket. Returning after an injury, he scored 63 runs off 89 balls. His innings included 6 fours and 2 sixes.

7. Pant becomes the third-highest six-hitter in Tests

Rishabh Pant has now moved up to third place on the list of batsmen with the most sixes in Test cricket. He has reached a tally of 102 Test sixes, surpassing Adam Gilchrist's record of 100. Brendon McCullum (107) and Ben Stokes (138) are ahead of Pant.
