A 20-year-old Dalit girl, who was allegedly a victim of gangrape in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, died during treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi last night.

The victim's brother has confirmed the death of the BBC. At the same time, Hathras police say that all the four accused in this case have been arrested and sent to jail.

The victim was brought to Safdarjung Hospital on Monday from Aligarh Muslim University Medical College. She was fighting a battle against death for the last two weeks.

The victim's family alleges that she was gang-raped on September 14 when she went to cut grass with her mother and brother.

The victim's brother told, "My sister, mother, and elder brother went to cut grass. The brother came home with a bundle of grass. Mother was cutting grass in front, she was behind. She was dragged and gang-raped. She was my mother." Was found in an unconscious state. "

According to the family, the victim was taken to the local community health center earlier from the state of unconsciousness, from where she was referred to Aligarh Medical College.

She was on a ventilator in the medical college for 13 days. He was brought to Safdarjung Hospital on Monday, where he died at around three o'clock.

The victim's brother told the BBC, "Her tongue was cut off, the spinal cord was broken, one part of the body was not working. She was unable to speak. She was making gestures somehow."

The charge of gang rape is on four people belonging to the upper caste of the village itself. The police have arrested all four.

Hathras SP Vikrant Veer told the BBC, "All the four accused have been arrested and sent to jail. We will demand a fast track hearing from the court. The victim's family has also been given security in the village."

The DM of Hathras has also assured all possible help by tweeting.

He tweeted, "In the case of Chandra police station, the family of the victim was given financial assistance of Rs. 4,12,500 in the past. Today, the assistance of Rs. 5,87,500 is being provided. Has been."

Accusations of negligence on police

Speaking to the BBC, the victim's brother said that initially, the police did not take the matter seriously. No one was arrested until 10 days after the incident.

She said the gang rape section was also added when my sister gave a statement to the Circle Officer and pointed out the fate with her.

Initially, the police had just filed an attempt to murder and named only one accused.

Family members say that the victim was unconscious and did not know what happened to her.

The victim's brother said, "My mother and brother had reached the police station in disgrace. They had given the same Tahrir as they understood at that time. But the police did not take any action for 10 days."

On the allegation of negligence on the police, the SP says, "The trial was registered initially by the family. When the girl's statement was taken during the investigation, the gang rape came to light and this section was added."

On whether the medical report confirmed the gang rape, the SP said that this information cannot be shared yet.

Protest against Dalit organizations

Azad Samaj Party founder Chandrashekhar Azad arrived in Aligarh on Saturday to meet the victim. He raised the issue of the victim not getting better treatment and negligence in the investigation.

Bhim Army activists have also demonstrated in several cities after the incident. A party worker told the BBC, "The Dalit girl has been targeted, so everybody is silent. Gang rape with a Dalit girl and then her death does not matter to anyone."

At the same time, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati has also raised serious questions about the Uttar Pradesh government regarding this incident.

Mayawati has said in a tweet, 'A Dalit girl was first beaten up badly in UP district Hathras, then gang-raped, which is super-embarrassing and very condemnable, while other society's sisters and daughters are also Nowhere in the state are not safe. The government must pay attention to this, this is the demand of the BSP. "

After the death of the victim, Mayawati has demanded to run the case in a fast track court and hang the accused. In a tweet, he said that the news of the death of a Dalit victim today after gang rape in Hathras, UP is very sad. The government should provide all possible help to the victim's family and ensure speedy execution of the culprits by prosecuting the fast track courts, this demand of the BSP. "

Fear of family

Speaking to the BBC, the gang-rape victim's brother said that after the incident, the accused were threatened with the consequences. The PAC was deployed in the village after informing the police.

They said, "We are very scared. They are very powerful. We may have to flee the village too."

Has the government provided any help to his family? On this question, he says, "There is no help yet. The MP asked to go to Lucknow to meet the Chief Minister. We would have treated our sister or met CM?"

Rape cases are not stopping

Women rights activist Yogita Bhayana has been tweeting continuously on this matter for several days. Speaking to the BBC, she said, "Despite all the claims of the government, such incidents are not taking the name of stopping because somewhere the administration and the government are not serious about the safety of women."

She says, "The victim suffered serious bodily injury in the case. She was left dead. But the police did not take it seriously initially. It took 10 days for the first arrest. Tried to suppress the case, Which shows that the police are not serious about stopping such incidents. "

She says, "On one hand we call women goddesses and on the other hand such incidents happen. There have been many such serious incidents in UP in recent months. A 13-year-old Dalit girl was murdered after being raped in Barabanki. She had gone. The eyes were blown off after the rape of a six-year-old girl in Hapur. Such incidents are happening intermittently but the police-administration is not taking any serious steps. "
