HDFC Bank shares remained in focus on Tuesday as the stock traded higher despite weakness across the broader market. The private-sector lender opened at around ₹723 and climbed to ₹739 during early trading.
The rise comes after HDFC Bank CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan announced that he would not seek another term after completing his current tenure. The leadership transition has raised questions about the bank's future strategic direction, but brokerages continue to maintain a broadly positive view of the stock.
Why Are HDFC Bank Shares Rising?
Investors are closely watching the succession process following Jagdishan's decision not to seek reappointment.
While the leadership change creates some uncertainty, analysts believe appointing a successor with a full tenure could provide greater clarity for the bank's long-term strategy.
Brokerages remain positive on HDFC Bank, although some have reduced their price targets because of near-term uncertainty surrounding the transition.
Jefferies Cuts HDFC Bank Target to ₹880
Global brokerage Jefferies has retained its Buy rating on HDFC Bank but reduced its target price from ₹1,050 to ₹880.
The brokerage has also lowered its FY27–FY29 earnings estimates by around 3%.
According to the analysis, the leadership transition could affect the bank's revenue momentum, particularly in areas such as deposit mobilisation and fee-based income.
ICICI Securities Lowers Target to ₹920
ICICI Securities has also maintained its Buy recommendation on HDFC Bank.
However, the brokerage reduced its target price from ₹1,020 to ₹920, reflecting greater caution around the bank's near-term outlook.
Axis Capital Remains More Bullish
Axis Capital has taken a comparatively more optimistic stance.
The brokerage has retained its Buy rating and a target price of ₹1,030.
According to Axis Capital, Jagdishan's decision removes uncertainty surrounding the possibility of a shortened second term and could allow HDFC Bank to appoint a successor who receives a full three-year tenure.
HDFC Bank Share Price: What Should Investors Watch?
The key factor for HDFC Bank investors will now be the succession process and the identity of the bank's next CEO.
In the near term, the stock could remain sensitive to developments surrounding the leadership transition. At the same time, continued deposit growth, fee income, earnings performance and the bank's strategic direction will remain important factors for investors.
With brokerages maintaining Buy ratings despite revised targets, the overall analyst stance remains constructive, although expectations have become more cautious in the short term.
