IND vs AUS: 'You judge by runs, we look at the impact', coach Gambhir's reply to the reporter about Rohit's form

India defeated Australia in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy 2025 and knocked them out of the tournament. The Indian team, led by captain Rohit Sharma, has performed brilliantly in this tournament so far. The team has so far defeated New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Australia in its journey to the final. However, for some time now, Rohit's batting has been in the headlines instead of his captaincy. Some time ago, there were speculations about his retirement. However, Rohit denied it and said that he would continue to play. When coach Gautam Gambhir arrived for the press conference after the victory against Australia, he was also asked questions about Rohit. To this, the coach gave a befitting reply.

Gambhir was asked in the post-match press conference how much longer can Rohit play for the national team? What is his opinion? Responding to this, Gambhir praised the Indian captain fiercely. He said that he judges the form of the Hitman by his impact on the match, not by looking at his statistics. Under the leadership of captain Rohit, Team India has reached the final of the fourth consecutive ICC tournament. These include three limited-overs tournaments. India had earlier played the finals of the 2023 World Test Championship, 2023 ODI World Cup, and 2024 T20 World Cup under Rohit's captaincy.

The reporter asked, 'What kind of form is Rohit in? How much more cricket do you think he will play now?' To this, Gambhir said, 'Now the final of the Champions Trophy is coming. What can I say before that? If your captain bats at this kind of pace, it gives a very good signal to the dressing room that we want to be fearless. You judge the batsman by the runs, we evaluate him by his impact. That's the difference. You judge by the statistics, we evaluate by his impact. As a journalist or expert, you only look at the number or average. But as a coach and a team, we don't look at the number or average. If the captain leads from the front, there is nothing better than this for the dressing room.'

Rohit may not have scored runs in the four matches so far in the tournament, but he has given a fast start. After hitting some good shots, he has lost his wicket in the pursuit of increasing the run rate. So far in four matches in the Champions Trophy 2025, he has scored 104 runs at an average of 26.00 and a strike rate of 107.21. His best score is 41. Against Australia, he scored 28 runs in 29 balls with the help of three fours and a six. Rohit has also got a special achievement to his name. Under his leadership, India has managed to reach the finals of four men's ICC tournaments. These include the World Test Championship 2023, ODI World Cup 2023, T20 World Cup 2024, and now the Champions Trophy 2025. Rohit has become the first captain in the world to make this special record.

Since winning the 2011 ODI World Cup, the Indian team has been strong in ICC ODI tournaments for the last 14 years. However, on some occasions, the team could not succeed. The team was successful in winning the 2013 Champions Trophy after 2011. Then the Indian team reached the semi-finals of the 2015 ODI World Cup, reached the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy, and also managed to make it to the semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup. India had to face defeat in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Will Rohit and company be able to lift another ICC trophy after winning the T20 World Cup last year? This will be known on March 9.
