IND vs PAK: 'Will appeal to PM Modi...', Shahid Afridi's big statement on starting cricket between India and Pakistan

Posted on 21st Mar 2023 06:11 pm by rohit kumar

No bilateral cricket series has been played between India and Pakistan for a long time. Now, these two teams come face to face either in ICC events or Asian Cricket Council tournaments. Whenever these two teams clash, no seat in the stadium remains empty. However, due to political reasons, there is no bilateral series between the two teams.

Appeal to restore bilateral series

The last time a bilateral series was played between the two countries was in 2012-13. At the same time, the last match between the two teams was played during the 2022 T20 World Cup. Now former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has given a big statement regarding the restoration of cricket relations between the two countries. Afridi has appealed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow cricket between India and Pakistan.

What did Shahid Afridi say?

According to media reports, on the occasion of Legends League Cricket (LLC) in Doha, Afridi said- 'I will request Modi sahib to allow cricket to happen between the two countries.' India and Pakistan will face each other in the Asia Cup this year but the fate of the tournament hangs in the balance over the venue.

Controversy over Asia Cup

The Indian team will not be allowed to travel to Pakistan for the tournament and the Pakistan Cricket Board is determined to host the tournament in their country. Speaking on the matter, Afridi said that the BCCI is a very strong board, but it should not try to make 'enemies', but rather focus on making 'friends'.

Afridi also stated BCCI

Afridi said- If we want to befriend someone and he does not talk to us then what can we do? There is no doubt that BCCI is a very strong board, but when you are strong, you have more responsibility. You don't try to make enemies, rather you need to make friends. When you make more friends, you become stronger.

"PCB is not weak"

Asked whether PCB is a 'weak board', Afridi said he does not think so. Afridi said- I will not say weak, but some answers also came from the front (BCCI). The former Pakistan captain also talked about his relationship with the Indian players. Afridi revealed that he received a bat as a gift from former India cricketer Suresh Raina in the recently concluded Legends League Cricket.

Raina gave the bat to Afridi

He said- I still have friends on the Indian team, when we meet we talk a lot. When I met Raina during LLC, I asked him for a bat. He also gave me a bat. Earlier, Afridi had also talked about hosting the Asia Cup. He had said – who is saying no to the Asia Cup? India is saying no. Afridi further said that his country will take great care of the Indian team if India decides to tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup.

What did Afridi say about hosting the Asia Cup?

Afridi said - If you send the Indian team then it is right. We will keep them on our heads. Earlier an Indian from Mumbai, I will not take his name, had threatened Pakistan that he would not be allowed to come to India. But we kept everything aside and our government took it as a responsibility and the Pakistan team went to India. That's why threats should not spoil our relations. The dangers will remain.

Asia Lions wins LLC tournament

Afridi said- The main problem is that we do not sit together and talk. Just like we are sitting here talking, similarly, politicians should also come together and talk. He has a big responsibility. The Asia Lions team, captained by Shahid Afridi, won the Legends League cricket tournament this year. In the final, they defeated Shane Watson's World Giants. India Maharaja, captained by Gautam Gambhir, finished third.
