IND vs USA: Pakistan's hopes remain alive with the Indian team's victory over America, Suryakumar-Shivam's excellent partnership

Posted on 13th Jun 2024 10:59 am by rohit kumar

After a brilliant performance by the bowlers led by fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, India qualified for the Super Eight stage by defeating America by seven wickets based on an excellent partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dubey. Batting first, America scored 110 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. Chasing the target, India did not have a good start, but Suryakumar and Shivam handled the team, based on which India won by scoring 111 runs for three wickets in 18.2 overs.

This is India's third consecutive win in this tournament. India thus achieved the most successful target so far at Nassau County International Stadium in New York. For India, Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 50 runs off 49 balls with the help of two fours and two sixes and Shivam Dubey remained unbeaten on 31 runs off 35 balls with the help of one four and one six. Saurabh Netravalkar took two wickets for America.

India on top, Pakistan gets relief

Before this match, India and America were the only teams that were unbeaten in Group A. India's net run rate was better in its group, so its entry into the next round was almost certain. If the US team had upset India by defeating them, Pakistan's journey would have stopped in the group stage itself. However, Pakistan has heaved a sigh of relief with India's victory. India is currently on top in Group A with six points with three wins in three matches, while despite the defeat, the US team is in second place with four points with two wins and one loss in three matches. Pakistan's team is in third place with two points with one win and two losses in three matches.

Saurabh Netravalkar impressed

America's fast bowler Saurabh Netravalkar bowled brilliantly and gave India the first blow by dismissing Virat Kohli in the very first over. Kohli was dismissed without opening his account on his very first ball while chasing the target against America. This is the first time Kohli has been dismissed for zero in a T20 World Cup match. Kohli's bat is not working at all in the T20 World Cup. Kohli's bat has flopped in the first three matches of the group stage and he has scored a total of five runs in three matches. Kohli scored one run off five balls against Ireland and four runs off three balls against Pakistan. After Kohli, Saurabh also sent Indian captain Rohit Sharma to the pavilion who was dismissed after scoring three runs off six balls.

India's sixth-lowest score in powerplay in T20 World Cup

Indian batsmen came under pressure after the initial setbacks and could not score many runs in the powerplay. India scored 33 runs for two wickets in the powerplay against America, which is its sixth-lowest score in the powerplay in the T20 World Cup. India's lowest score in the powerplay in this global tournament is 29 runs for four wickets against New Zealand, which it made in Nagpur.

Suryakumar and Shivam's brilliant partnership

After the initial setbacks, Suryakumar Yadav took charge along with wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. Suryakumar shared a 29-run partnership with Pant for the third wicket. Pant, who was in good rhythm, was bowled by Ali Khan, who was dismissed after scoring 18 runs off 20 balls with a four and a six. When Pant was dismissed, India's score was 39 runs for three wickets. At that time it seemed that America might upset the team again, but Suryakumar along with Shivam performed strongly and took the team out of trouble. Suryakumar and Shivam shared a 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket, based on which the Indian team was successful in winning this match.

Suryakumar hit a half-century

Suryakumar Yadav played responsibly in this match and contributed significantly to the team's victory. Suryakumar not only handled the innings along with Shivam Dubey but also led the team to victory by staying till the end. Suryakumar completed his half-century by taking a run on the first ball of the 19th over. Suryakumar hit a half-century in 49 balls, which is the fifth-slowest fifty in the T20 World Cup. Apart from Suryakumar, Devon Smith and David Hussey have also scored half-centuries in 49 balls in this global tournament. Mohammad Rizwan holds the record for scoring the slowest fifty in the T20 World Cup, he did so in 52 balls against Canada in New York this year.

America was penalized five runs during India's innings. This was the third time in the match when the US team could not start over on time. According to the rules, any team has to start the over within 60 seconds, but this happened three times against India when the US team could not start the new over on time, due to which a penalty of five runs was imposed on it.

Arshdeep gave early blows to America

Earlier, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited America to bat first, but fast bowler Arshdeep Singh did not take long to prove the captain's decision right by giving two blows to America in the opening over. When Team India came out to bowl first, the first over was handed over to left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh. He took a wicket on the first ball of the match. Arshdeep got Shayan Jahangir out LBW on the very first ball of the match. Jahangir could not even open the account. Arshdeep took another wicket in the same over. He got Andrij Gaus (2) caught by Hardik Pandya on the last ball of the over. Arshdeep made a record by taking these two wickets. He became the first Indian player and the fourth player overall to take a wicket on the first ball of the match in the T20 World Cup.

America's poor performance in the powerplay

After the initial setbacks, America's batting order came under a lot of pressure and scored only 18 runs in the powerplay, in which only one boundary was hit. After losing two wickets in the first over, the entire responsibility of America fell on their most experienced batsmen Steven Taylor and Aaron Jones. Jones hit a six through a pull on Siraj in the fourth over. This was the first boundary of the match. Despite this, the Indian bowlers dominated in the powerplay. The American batsmen could score only 18 runs after losing two wickets in the first six overs. This is the lowest score made in the powerplay against India in the history of the T20 World Cup. Earlier, West Indies had scored 24 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay against India in Mirpur in the T20 World Cup 2014. Not only this, 18/2 is also America's lowest score in the powerplay in T20 International.

Nitish-Taylor handled America

Nitish Kumar and Steven Taylor batted well on a pitch that looked difficult for batting. For America, Nitish Kumar scored the highest 27 runs with the help of two fours and a six in 23 balls and Taylor scored 24 runs with the help of two sixes in 30 balls. Taylor hit a six against Shivam Dubey who came to bowl in the ninth over. He was bowled after hitting the second six of his innings against Akshar in the 12th over. Nitish then hit a spectacular straight six and four against Hardik, while Corey Anderson (15), who has played for New Zealand, sent Akshar's ball to the spectators. After conceding 32 runs in the last three overs, Indian captain Rohit Sharma handed the ball to Arshdeep and this bowler sent Nitish, who was batting aggressively, to the pavilion, whose brilliant catch was taken by Mohammad Siraj on the boundary. After Nitish's dismissal, America's innings faltered once again and could not score a big score.
