Delhi Capitals may have lost the second match of the doubleheader played on Sunday in IPL 2025, but Karun Nair's batting won everyone's heart. Karun came out to bat in the IPL after almost three years and played a stormy innings of 89 runs in 40 balls with the help of 12 fours and five sixes against Mumbai Indians. During this, his strike rate was 222.50.

After this explosive batting of Karun, an old tweet of his is going viral. In this, he is talking about giving himself another chance in cricket. Not only IPL, Karun has also scored a lot of runs in domestic cricket recently, but he did not get a chance in the national team. If he continues this performance in the IPL, then the selectors can consider his name for the Test series against England. There is a possibility of change in the Indian team for the England tour.

Superb performance in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024/25

In the old tweet of 33-year-old Karun which is going viral, he wrote- 'Dear Cricket! Please give me another chance.' He tweeted this in December 2022. Then Karun Nair, who performed well in domestic cricket, did not get a chance, so he posted this on his social media handle X (formerly Twitter). His career was almost over then. In such a situation, a completely broken Karun had posted this. After this post, something miraculous has happened for Karun in the last two years and he has started knocking on the door of the Indian team again.

In the recently held Vijay Hazare Trophy, he surprised everyone by performing brilliantly. Karun scored the most runs in this tournament and single-handedly took his team to the final. However, in the final, his team Vidarbha had to face defeat against Karnataka. Karun scored the most runs in this tournament, 779, in eight innings at an astonishing average of 389.50 and a strike rate of 124.04. These include five centuries and one half-century. His best individual score was an unbeaten 163 runs.

Made his team champion in the Ranji Trophy

Not only this, Karun's brilliant performance continued in the country's most prestigious domestic red ball tournament, the Ranji Trophy. His team Vidarbha also reached the final of Ranji and won the Ranji Trophy by defeating Kerala in the final. Karun was the fourth-highest run scorer in this tournament and the second-highest run-scorer for Vidarbha. Karun scored 863 runs in 16 innings at an average of 53.93. These include four centuries and two half-centuries. His best innings was an inning of 135 runs. Yash Rathod (960 runs) scored more runs than Karun for Vidarbha.

However, with his excellent performance in two consecutive top domestic tournaments, Karun has knocked on the door of the Indian team. In the mega auction, Delhi Capitals bought Karun for his base price of Rs 50 lakh. However, he did not get a chance before the match on Sunday. On Sunday, when he came out against Mumbai at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, he showed that form is temporary and class is permanent. Seeing his batting in Vijay Hazare, Ranji, and now IPL, it seems that cricket has probably given him another chance.

Threw Bumrah in the match against Mumbai

Karun scored a half-century in just 22 balls against Mumbai Indians. This was the 11th half-century of his IPL career. He scored a half-century in this tournament after almost seven years. The last time Karun did this was in May 2018 against Chennai Super Kings. Then he played an innings of 54 runs in 26 balls. Karun came on the field as an impact player and he made a great impact in the match. The Delhi team lost the wicket of Jake Fraser McGurk without any score. After this, Karun, who came to bat at number three, shared a 119-run partnership with Abhishek for the second wicket.

However, he was clean bowled by Mitchell Santner before the century, but when he was going back after scoring 89 runs, the fans gave him a standing ovation. 89 runs is the second-highest score made by an impact player in the IPL. Karun surpassed Rohit Sharma in this matter, who scored 68 runs against Lucknow last season. During this innings, Karun also thrashed Jasprit Bumrah, the best fast bowler in the world at present. He played a total of nine balls against this fast bowler and scored 26 runs. With this, he became the second batsman to score the most runs against Bumrah in the IPL. In 2016, Shikhar Dhawan scored 27 runs against Bumrah in 16 balls. Karun also had a verbal spat with Bumrah on the field.

Karun was dropped after scoring a triple-century

Karun had a bad time at the international level and he was dropped after scoring a triple century against England in Chennai. Karun scored an unbeaten 303 against England in December 2016. However, after this, he played three more Tests and scored 54 runs in four innings. However, the selectors never gave him a chance to play in the Indian team again. But he did not lose courage and kept working hard and now luck is with him. By performing brilliantly in domestic tournaments and IPL, he has presented his claim in front of the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar.
