MI vs CSK: Mumbai's second biggest win in terms of wickets, Rohit-Suryakumar made the biggest partnership for MI.

With the help of a brilliant partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by nine wickets. This is Mumbai's second-biggest win in terms of wickets in the IPL. Earlier in 2008, it had defeated CSK by nine wickets at Wankhede itself and now after 17 years Mumbai has repeated this feat. Mumbai's biggest win in IPL has also been against CSK. Mumbai defeated CSK by 10 wickets in 2020.

Batting first, Chennai scored 176 runs for five wickets in 20 overs, but Rohit and Suryakumar made a century partnership for the second wicket, due to which Mumbai won the match by scoring 177 runs for one wicket in 15.4 overs. Rohit, who came out as an impact player for Mumbai, returned unbeaten after scoring 76 runs off 45 balls with the help of four fours and six sixes, while Suryakumar Yadav scored an unbeaten 68 runs off 30 balls with the help of six fours and five sixes.

 

Status of the points table

 

This is Mumbai's fourth win in eight matches and it has come to the sixth position in the table with eight points. Mumbai has overtaken defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) which is in seventh place. At the same time, CSK suffered its sixth defeat in eight matches and remains at the bottom of the table. The Gujarat Titans team is at the top.

 

Rohit left Dhawan behind.

Rohit left Shikhar Dhawan behind with the help of his brilliant batting and has become the second highest run scorer in IPL. Rohit now has 6786 runs in this tournament. Now only Virat Kohli is ahead of Rohit who has scored 8326 runs in IPL. Dhawan has 6769 runs in IPL and now he has slipped to third place in this list.

 

Good start for Mumbai

 

Chasing the target, Ryan Rickleton and Rohit gave Mumbai a good start. Both these batsmen added 63 runs for the first wicket. Mumbai got the first blow in the form of Rickleton who was dismissed after scoring 24 runs with the help of three fours and a six in 19 balls. Like the last few times, in this match also Mumbai used Rohit as an impact player. Rohit was going through bad form for some time, but in this match, he was seen in a different rhythm.

 

Rohit scored his first half-century of this season in 33 balls and made a tremendous comeback in form. Rohit was well supported by Suryakumar who was seen batting aggressively from the beginning. Suryakumar completed his fifty in just 26 balls. After this, Suryakumar was seen in a different gear.

 

Suryakumar and Rohit took on Mathisha Pathirana, who came to bowl the 16th over and won the match by hitting three sixes. Suryakumar and Rohit shared an unbeaten partnership of 114 runs for the second wicket. This is the biggest partnership for Mumbai in this season of IPL. Ravindra Jadeja was the only success for CSK.

 

CSK had a bad start

 

Earlier, Mumbai won the toss in this match and decided to bowl first. CSK set a target of 177 runs in front of Mumbai Indians with the help of half-centuries from Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dubey. Jadeja returned unbeaten after scoring 53 runs off 35 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes. Batting first, CSK did not have a good start and lost the wicket of Rachin Ravindra soon who was dismissed after scoring five runs off nine balls. After this, Ayush Mhatre, playing his first match, batted brilliantly and did not let Mumbai get any other success till the powerplay.

 

Mhatre was also supported by Sheikh Rashid and took CSK's score beyond 50. However, Chahar gave the second blow to CSK by dismissing Mhatre, who was dismissed after scoring 32 runs with the help of four fours and two sixes in 15 balls. Then Rashid also returned to the pavilion after scoring 19 runs in 20 balls. CSK's innings were faltering, but Jadeja along with Shivam Dubey took over the innings.

These two batsmen made a partnership of 79 runs for the fourth wicket, which took CSK's score beyond 140. Dubey completed his half-century in 30 balls during this time, but he was dismissed after scoring 50 runs with the help of two fours and four sixes in 32 balls. Then came Dhoni who was dismissed after scoring four runs. In the end, Jadeja batted brilliantly and completed his half-century. This was Jadeja's first fifty after the last 14 IPL innings. With the help of Jadeja, CSK was able to cross the 175-run mark. Jamie Overton remained unbeaten after scoring four runs with the help of a four off three balls. For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets, while Deepak Chahar, Ashwini Kumar, and Mitchell Santner got one wicket each.
