Earlier, accused Rajesh Khimji, arrested for attacking Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during the weekly public hearing in Delhi on Wednesday, has been sent on a five-day police remand. Accused Rajesh was produced by Delhi Police late at night at a magistrate's house in Dwarka, South-West Delhi. Sources said that the accused was not produced before any magistrate in the Tis Hazari court complex.
Attack on CM Rekha Gupta at her residence during a public hearing
A young man who came as a complainant during the weekly public hearing at Delhi CM Rekha Gupta's official residence on Wednesday morning suddenly attacked the Chief Minister. The accused gave some papers to the CM, after which he started shouting. Later, the accused grabbed the CM's hand and hair and started pushing and shoving him.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the accused also slapped the CM. However, state president Virendra Sachdeva has denied the slapping. The accused was caught on the spot. People present there beat him up. As soon as the news of the lapse in the Chief Minister's security was received, there was a stir in the Delhi Police department.
Joint Police Commissioner Madhur Verma and Deputy Commissioner of Police Raja Banthia rushed to CM Awaaz. The Chief Minister was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, where he was treated. The accused was immediately caught and brought to the Civil Lines police station. He has been identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakaria (41), a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat.
As soon as the news of the attack on the CM was received, apart from the Delhi Police, all the intelligence agencies also reached the Civil Lines police station. However, seeing the crowd increasing outside the police station, the accused was shifted to an unknown place and is being interrogated there. The accused's mother Bhanuben, has claimed that her son is a dog lover. His mental condition is also not good.
A case of attempted murder was registered against Rajesh
After investigation, a case of attempt to murder has been registered against the accused Rajesh at the Civil Lines police station in the afternoon. During the investigation, police came to know that the accused was doing a recce of CM's residence for the last 24 hours. He had also done a recce of CM's private residence in Shalimar Bagh on Tuesday.
Police have recovered his mobile phone, Aadhar, and other documents from the accused. Efforts are being made to find out whether he is a part of any political conspiracy. Who all have come to Delhi with him? His old criminal record is being investigated. At present, the security of the Chief Minister's residence has been tightened.
Attack during the weekly public hearing

During the investigation, it was found that the accused lives with his wife, son, and parents in Gokul Park on Kotharia Road. His mother has said that Rajesh was disappointed with the Supreme Court's decision regarding dogs.
