
Bajrang Dal worker Harsha was murdered in Karnataka's Shivamogga on Sunday amid a hijab controversy. Shivamogga Police has talked about imposing a curfew in the district till Tuesday. The ruling BJP and the opposition Congress are face to face over this incident. Meanwhile, Bhaskar spoke to the family of the Bajrang Dal worker. The family said that the person who killed Harsha got Rs 10 lakh. The reward was announced.
The family said that Harsha had left Bajrang Dal a few days back. He was getting threats and a complaint was given to the police. Police say that they are investigating the matter. On the other hand, the minister in charge of Shivamogga district, K.S. Narayan Gowda has said that the situation is under control. He said that the police have arrested Kasif and Nadeem. There are 10 cases registered against accused Nadeem.
The violence took place even during the last journey, now 500 policemen deployed
Harsha was stabbed to death around 9 pm on Sunday. He was 26 years old. When Harsha's funeral procession also saw violence. Shivamogga SP Lakshmi Prasad BM said that everything is peaceful after the procession is over. More than 500 police force has been deployed. So far, three people have been arrested in this case, two more arrests are pending, but the police have not revealed their identities, nor given the reason for the murder.
School-college closed due to tension
The police had to use tear gas at many places to control the people who were protesting during the violence in the funeral procession. Section 144 has been imposed in the city due to security. Schools and colleges have been closed for two days in Shivamogga as a precautionary measure to keep the situation under control.
Accused of instigating DK Shivakumar, Congress leader said - BJP is getting riots done
Giving a religious color to the incident, state minister KS Eshwarappa said, “Harsha was murdered by Muslim goons. Congress leader DK Shivakumar had instigated the murder.' In response, DK Shivakumar said, 'BJP is creating riots in the name of religion. A case should be registered against Eshwarappa immediately.” BJP leader BL Santhosh said, “Harsha was murdered because of the anti-hijab protest.”
A compensation of Rs 2 lakh has also been announced to Harsh's family by MP Renukacharya, BJP MLA from Honnali in Karnataka. KC Narayana Gowda, minister in charge of the Shivamogga district said that the incident of the Bajrang Dal worker's murder could not have happened without his support. He said that there was a scuffle between the accused and the deceased.
Harsha posted against hijab on Facebook
In the initial investigation, the police are looking at it as a link to the hijab controversy, as Harsh had written a post on his Facebook profile against the hijab and in support of the saffron shawl. Bajrang Dal has been very active since the hijab controversy came to light in Udupi, Karnataka. That is why the suspicion of conspiracy angle in Harsh's murder has deepened. However, the police are refraining from saying anything about this.
Stones were pelted at homes and shops, vehicles were also burnt
Tension escalated in Shivamogga after the incident. On Monday, a crowd gathered in the Muslim-dominated area of Azad Nagar. Shops ransacked. Vehicles parked outside were set on fire. Tension continued till evening. Miscreants torched several vehicles in the city's Seegehatti area. Because of the growing uproar, Section 144 has been imposed in the city. Police used force to disperse the crowd.
