On the evening of 27 February, he breathed his last in a hospital in Delhi during treatment. Mohanty's nephew has also confirmed his death.

According to a report by news agency ANI, his family has informed that the 66-year-old actor was brought to Delhi from Bhubaneswar on February 8. He had been battling a serious liver-related disease for a long time.
