On the evening of 27 February, he breathed his last in a hospital in Delhi during treatment. Mohanty's nephew has also confirmed his death.
People are shocked by the actor's sudden departure from the world and fans are paying tribute to him on social media. According to a report by news agency ANI, his family has informed that the 66-year-old actor was brought to Delhi from Bhubaneswar on February 8. He had been battling a serious liver-related disease for a long time.

However, his contribution will live in the hearts of the people forever. I pray for the peace of his soul and also express my deepest condolences to the family.'
The actor will be cremated with state honors.
