Bahraich Violence: Mahsi is on the path of peace. Tension still prevails in Maharajganj; Entry into the town only after interrogation

After the violence that took place on Sunday and Monday during the idol immersion procession in Bahraich, UP, the situation in the district is now slowly returning to normal. Given security, the police force is still deployed and top officials including ADG Gorakhpur Zone KS Pratap and Commissioner Shashi Bhushan Lal are camping.

 

So far 12 cases have been registered after the incident and more than 55 people have been arrested by the police. On Wednesday, the fourth day, shops remained open in the violence-affected Rampurwa, Bhagwanpur, Hardi, Shivpur, and Khaira Bazar and the situation remained normal. People came out in the markets fearlessly and were seen buying daily essential items.

From Sunday to Monday, the entire incident revealed huge police negligence. SP Vrinda Shukla immediately suspended Hardi police station in-charge Suresh Verma and Mahsi outpost in-charge. During this time, the people involved in the immersion had also made serious allegations including negligence against CO Rupendra Gaur. Taking cognizance of this, the government has suspended the CO. Ravi Khokhar, who came from Rampur, has been given the responsibility of Mahsi.

 

Tension still prevails in Maharajganj, ASP and PD deployed

The situation in Maharajganj town, which was the center of the controversy, has not yet become normal. Shops in the town remained closed on Wednesday as well. Only one medical store remained open in the entire market and only a few people were seen. Only police, police vehicles, and PAC personnel were seen everywhere. Hundreds of policemen including Project Director Arun Singh and ASP of Balrampur were deployed outside the house of the main accused Abdul Hameed. 12 companies of PAC, two CRPF, RAF, and four senior IPS officers have been deployed in the town. The CM office is also keeping an eye.

 

10 cases registered in Hardi police station

The police are continuously taking action in the case of violence. Till Wednesday, a total of 12 cases were registered against both the communities in the district. At the same time, more than 50 people have been sent to jail by the police so far. 10 cases have been registered in Hardi police station. Hardi police station in-charge Kamal Shankar Chaturvedi said that the first case was registered against six named persons including Abdul Hameed and 10 unknown persons. After this, cases have been registered against the unknown mob for the disturbance.

 

Meeting at Tehsil headquarters for peace

 

A high-level meeting was held in Mahsi Tehsil auditorium on Wednesday in the presence of ADG Gorakhpur Zone KS Pratap, Commissioner Shashi Bhushan Lal, DIG Amarendra Prasad, DM Monica Rani. It was discussed to normalize the situation soon. After the meeting, the DM said that more than 50 people had been arrested. At the same time, the identification of others is going on. The revenue team is engaged in assessing the damage caused during the arson. Lunch packets and food items are being provided to the victims.

 

Entry is being given in the town after interrogation.

 

The police force is deployed at every nook and corner in Maharajganj town. Every vehicle entering the town is being checked and the people in it are being questioned. Outsiders are not being allowed entry.

 

Internet service may be restored by Saturday.

 

Internet service has been disrupted in the entire district since Sunday to control the incidents of arson and vandalism after the murder. According to departmental sources, internet service may be restored from Saturday.

On Sunday, during the Durga idol immersion, Abdul Hameed dragged Ram Gopal Mishra, a resident of Rehuva, into the house and brutally murdered him along with his sons and others. After the incident, the police registered a case against Abdul Hameed, his two sons Rinku alias Sarfaraz, Faheem, and Mohammad Danish alias Raja, Nanakau, Maruf Ali, and four unidentified persons.

 

For negligence in the incident, SP Vrinda Shukla suspended the then police station in-charge Suresh Verma, and gave the responsibility of the police station to Kamal Shankar Chaturvedi and talked about damage control. Kamal Shankar Chaturvedi was continuously raiding amid pressure to arrest the main accused. On Wednesday, he arrested Mohammad Danish near Raji intersection.
