AAP, which is embroiled in controversies over registration in Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana and health scheme for the elderly, Sanjeevani, has now come up with a scheme for priests and granthis as well. Delhi CM Atishi and former Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal will launch the 'Pujari-Granthi Samman Yojana' today.
The AAP convenor has announced that on returning to power, his government will give an honorarium of Rs 18,000 per month to the priests of temples and granthis of gurudwaras. Registration for this will start today, i.e. Tuesday.
Start of the scheme from Hanuman temple in Connaught Place
Arvind Kejriwal himself will launch the scheme by registering the priests at Hanuman temple in Connaught Place. After this, AAP MLAs and workers across Delhi will go to temples and gurudwaras and register under the scheme.
"It will be a big sin..."
Kejriwal took a dig at the BJP and said that just like it tried to stop the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman and Sanjeevani Yojana by sending the police and filing fake cases, it should not try to stop this scheme in the same way, otherwise it will be a big sin.
AAP claims that there are more than 10 thousand priests and granthis in Delhi
AAP says that the person who is conducting the puja under the scheme will be considered a priest. Voter ID cards of priests will be valid. AAP claims that the number of priests and granthis in the whole of Delhi is more than 10 thousand.
Most of them have their voter ID cards made on the temple address, if those don't have them, then if the head priest of the temple certifies any other priest based on the temple's documents, he will also be considered a priest of that temple.
Why did you not take care of priests for 10 years: Vijender Gupta
Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta has called the Pujari-Granthi Samman Yojana an election stunt. He has said that seeing the elections ahead, Arvind Kejriwal has suddenly started loving priests and granthis. He asked why Kejriwal, who gives salaries to Imams and gives them a lot of respect, did not take care of these priests for the last 10 years.
Imams have not received a salary for 17 months: Devendra Yadav.
State Congress President Devendra Yadav said that 150 Imams, 58 Muazzins of registered mosques, and more than two thousand Imams and Muazzins of unregistered mosques have not received salary for the last 17 months. Kejriwal is playing a double trick to garner votes by taking the religious sympathy of the people of Delhi by announcing Samman Yojana for priests and granthis.
