Officials said that the encounter started when the soldiers of the National Rifles and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police started a joint cordon and search operation in Dhari Gote Urarbagi of Desa forest area at around 7.45 pm.
The Army's White Knight Corps wrote in a post on Twitter, "Based on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation by the Army and Police was underway in the general area north of Doda. Contact was established with the terrorists at around 9 pm, after which heavy firing took place. Additional troops were sent to the area.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed condolences to the families of the army and police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the Doda encounter. He said that we will avenge the martyrdom of the soldiers.

I call upon the people to unite in the fight against terrorism and provide us with accurate information so that we can intensify anti-terrorism operations and put an end to the terrorist ecosystem.'
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed grief over the sacrifice of the soldiers.
