Durand Cup 2026: Edmund Lalrindika's Hat-Trick Powers East Bengal to 4-1 Win Over Mohun Bagan

East Bengal produced a stunning performance in the Durand Cup 2026 final, defeating arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant 4-1 at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata to lift the prestigious trophy after a 22-year wait.

Edmund Lalrindika was the undisputed star of the Kolkata derby, scoring a sensational first-half hat-trick. Bipin Singh also found the net for East Bengal, while Manvir Singh scored Mohun Bagan's only goal.

East Bengal started the final aggressively and put Mohun Bagan's defence under immense pressure from the opening minutes.

Bipin Singh opened the scoring in the 10th minute after receiving a pass from captain Mohammed Basim Rashid. Just two minutes later, Edmund doubled East Bengal's advantage with a superb strike from outside the box.

Edmund struck again in the 22nd minute, putting East Bengal 3-0 ahead and leaving Mohun Bagan in serious trouble.

Manvir Singh pulled one back for Mohun Bagan in the 33rd minute, briefly raising hopes of a comeback. However, those hopes disappeared before half-time when Edmund completed his hat-trick in the 44th minute, converting a chance created from Rashid's free-kick.

East Bengal went into the break with a commanding 4-1 lead.

Mohun Bagan attempted to fight back after the interval, but East Bengal's defence remained organised.

Goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Singh Gill made important interventions to prevent Mohun Bagan from reducing the deficit further. East Bengal's midfield, led by the impressive Mohammed Basim Rashid, also played a key role in controlling the game.

The final whistle triggered huge celebrations among East Bengal supporters, who had waited more than two decades to see their team win the Durand Cup again.

East Bengal End 22-Year Durand Cup Drought

The victory marked East Bengal's 17th Durand Cup title, bringing them level with Mohun Bagan for the record number of championships.

The result was particularly significant because Mohun Bagan had defeated East Bengal 1-0 earlier in the tournament during the group stage. East Bengal responded emphatically in the final with a four-goal performance against their biggest rivals.

Coach Antonio Lopez Habas's tactical approach proved highly effective as East Bengal consistently exploited gaps in Mohun Bagan's defence.
