According to the information received, four people have died so far due to the strong tremors of the earthquake and more than 50 are said to be injured.

Taiwan's earthquake monitoring agency put the intensity at 7.2, while the US Geological Survey put it at 7.4. Wu Chien-fu, head of Taiwan's earthquake monitoring bureau, said its impact was felt as far away as the Taiwan-controlled island of Kinmen, off the coast of China.

Many buildings bowed due to the strong tremors of the earthquake

The earthquake was so strong that a five-storey building in sparsely populated Hualien was badly damaged with its first floor completely collapsing and the rest leaning at an angle of 45 degrees. Tiles from many old buildings and some new office complexes also fell in the capital, Taipei.
