
Pune MP Girish Bapat passed away on Wednesday. BJP leader Bapat was admitted to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune, where he breathed his last. Bapat was elected MP from Pune for the first time in 2019. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences while remembering Bapat. He tweeted that his departure is sad, he is an inspiration to many. Om Shanti.
Those close to Bapat say that he was ill for a long time. His body will be taken for the last rites at 7 pm today. Bapat was active in politics since 1973. The credit for building the foundation of the BJP in Pune also goes to him. Because of this, Girish was also known as the power of Pune.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted and paid tribute to the Pune MP. The PM said that Bapat ji was a very civilized and hardworking worker. He has continuously worked for the development of Maharashtra. He was always alert to the development of Pune. Bapat ji did a lot of work to strengthen the BJP in Maharashtra. He was such a legislator, who always raised the issues of the public. Being a minister and Pune MP, he has done a great job. He will remain an inspiration to many. His departure is sad. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde said that he is saddened by the departure of BJP MP Bapat. He started his political career at the grassroots level. He was always an ideal leader.
Many leaders came to meet
During which Girish Bapat was admitted to the hospital due to ill health, at that time many leaders of the opposition, including the BJP, came to inquire about his well-being. Among them, other leaders including Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and NCP chief Sharad Pawar came to the hospital to inquire about his health.
The political journey of Girish Bapat
BJP leader and Pune MP Bapat were earlier associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. In the year 1980, he was appointed as the Secretary of Pune City. In 1983, Bapat won the Pune Municipal Corporation elections. After which the councilor was elected 3 times in a row. From 1986 to 87, Bapat was also a member of the Standing Committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation. In 1955, Bapat reached the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for the first time. In 1997, he was also appointed as the director of the Krishna Valley Development Corporation. In the year 2019, he was elected MP from the Pune Lok Sabha seat. Apart from this, he has also been the Food and Civil Supplies Minister in the Fadnavis government in 2014. He has also worked as the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.
