Punjab Kings made a great start to their campaign by defeating Gujarat Titans by 11 runs thanks to the lethal bowling of Arshdeep Singh and Vijaykumar Vishak in the death overs. In this match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, Punjab, who came to bat first after losing the toss, scored 243 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs, thanks to the partnership of 81* runs between Shreyas Iyer and Shashank Singh. This is Punjab's second-highest total in IPL. Last season, Punjab scored 262/2 against KKR. In response, Gujarat's team could score only 232 runs for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated overs.

Shreyas Iyer is captaining Punjab this season. He performed brilliantly in his very first match and remained unbeaten after scoring 97 runs in 42 balls. During this, he hit five fours and nine sixes at a strike rate of 230.95. With this, the right-handed batsman made a big record in his name. He became the third batsman to score the highest score while debuting as captain for any team. Sanju Samson is at the top in this case. He scored 119 runs against Punjab Kings while debuting as captain for Rajasthan Royals in 2021.
