HDFC Bank Raises Record $1.75 Billion Through Overseas Bonds; Funds to Support Business Growth

HDFC Bank has raised $1.75 billion through foreign-currency bonds to support its business expansion and long-term growth plans. The fundraising was completed through the bank's GIFT City branch.

 

According to the regulatory filing, the bonds have been issued in the senior unsecured category and have been divided into two separate tranches.

HDFC Bank's $1.75 Billion Bond Issue: Key Details

 

The first tranche comprises $500 million of bonds with a three-year maturity. These securities carry a 5.159% coupon rate.

 

The second and larger tranche is worth $1.25 billion and has a five-year maturity. These bonds carry a 5.4% coupon rate.

 

The securities will be listed on the India International Exchange (India INX) and NSE International Exchange (NSE-IX).

Why Has HDFC Bank Raised $1.75 Billion?

 

The fundraising will provide HDFC Bank with additional capital to support its business expansion and lending operations.

Bonds Issued Through GIFT City Branch

 

The bond issuance was executed through HDFC Bank's GIFT City branch in Gujarat.

 

The securities are senior unsecured bonds, meaning they are not backed by specific collateral. Investors instead have a senior claim on the issuer subject to the terms of the securities.

 

The listing of the bonds on India INX and NSE-IX will provide an additional avenue for trading in these securities.
