Hindustan Copper OFS: Government Offers Shares at ₹514, Nearly ₹59 Below Market Price; Will the Stock See Action Tomorrow?

Posted on 25th Aug 2026 11:15 am by rohit kumar

The government is offering investors an opportunity to buy shares of Hindustan Copper Limited through an Offer for Sale (OFS) at a significant discount to the prevailing market price. The Centre plans to sell up to a 6% stake in the Miniratna public sector company, with the initial offer covering 3% and an additional 3% available under the green-shoe option.

The OFS comes after a strong performance by Hindustan Copper, with the company reporting substantial growth in profit and revenue in the June 2026 quarter.

Hindustan Copper OFS: What Is the Discount?

The government has fixed the OFS floor price at ₹514 per share.

Hindustan Copper shares closed at ₹573.55 on the BSE on Monday. Based on this closing price, the OFS floor price represents a discount of approximately 10.38%, or around ₹59.55 per share.

However, the OFS price should not be interpreted as a guaranteed bargain or assured return. The market price can move significantly before and after the OFS.

Government to Sell Up to 6% Stake

According to DIPAM Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey, the government will initially sell a 3% stake in Hindustan Copper through the OFS.

If investor demand is strong, the government can exercise the green-shoe option to sell another 3% stake, taking the total potential stake sale to 6%.

The transaction is part of the government's broader disinvestment programme.

Retail Investors Get 10% Reservation

Retail investors have also been given a specific allocation in the OFS.

Initial government stake sale: 3%

Additional green-shoe option: 3%

Maximum total stake sale: 6%

Retail investor reservation: 10%

Employee reservation: 25,000 shares

OFS floor price: ₹514 per share

This reservation could increase participation from individual investors, although allocation will depend on demand and applicable OFS rules.

Hindustan Copper Share Returns

Hindustan Copper has delivered strong returns over the periods mentioned in the company's market data.

The stock has gained:

More than 17% in one month

Around 140% in one year

More than 390% over five years

Its reported 52-week range is ₹226 to ₹760, while its market capitalisation is approximately ₹55,531 crore.

Past returns, however, do not guarantee future performance.

Hindustan Copper Q1 FY27 Results: Profit Jumps 163%

The company delivered a strong performance in the quarter ended June 2026.

Its Profit After Tax (PAT) increased 163% year-on-year to ₹353 crore, while revenue from operations rose 81% to ₹936 crore.

The strong quarterly performance has added to investor interest in the copper producer at a time when demand for the metal is expected to increase across several industries.

Hindustan Copper's Expansion Plans

Hindustan Copper is India's only vertically integrated copper producer and operates under the Ministry of Mines.

The company is targeting a significant increase in annual ore production capacity to approximately 12.2 million tonnes by 2030.

Its expansion strategy includes reopening closed mines in Jharkhand, pursuing mining opportunities in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, and exploring potential resources in Chile.

Why Copper Demand Is Important

Copper is a critical raw material for industries linked to electric vehicles, renewable energy, power transmission, electronics and infrastructure.

As investment in EVs, clean energy and electricity networks increases, demand for copper could remain structurally strong. This provides a potentially important long-term growth opportunity for companies involved in copper production.

At the same time, copper prices, mining costs, project execution and commodity-market cycles remain important risks for investors.

Hindustan Copper OFS: What Should Investors Watch?

The ₹514 OFS floor price is significantly below the stock's Monday closing price, making the offer attractive on a simple price-comparison basis. However, investors should not assume that the market price will remain above the OFS price.

The key factors to watch include OFS subscription demand, the government's final stake sold, post-OFS selling pressure, copper prices, production growth and the company's mine-expansion progress.
