This anti-malarial drug suddenly came into the limelight when then US President Donald Trump said it was effective in the treatment of corona. The US had imported this medicine from India in large quantities, but now the World Health Organization has said that the drug should not be used.

 

The WHO expert panel said in a statement released on Tuesday that this drug did not affect the treatment of corona. Neither the deaths due to corona are stopped by this drug nor the number of hospitalized people is decreasing, but the risk of adverse effects from this drug is increased.

 

WHO has given this suggestion after the results of 6 types of trials on more than 6 thousand people.

 

The WHO has stated that hydroxychloroquine will no longer be prioritized in research and will instead use resources to evaluate other drugs.

 

What is hydroxy chloroquine

Hydroxychloroquine is an old and inexpensive drug used in the treatment of malaria. The hydroxychloroquine drug is used as an anti-malarial drug. Apart from malaria, this medicine is also used in the treatment of arthritis.

 

Millions of people are affected every year by malaria in India. Due to this, a large amount of hydroxychloroquine drug is produced here every year. This medicine is most commonly made in India in the world.
