iPhone Fold Launch: Apple’s First Foldable May Debut With iPhone 18 Pro; Price and Features Leaked

After years of speculation, Apple could finally enter the foldable smartphone market. Reports and leaks suggest that the company's first foldable iPhone may be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at Apple's expected September 9 event.

However, consumers may have to wait longer to get their hands on the device. Manufacturing challenges could reportedly delay retail availability until October. Apple has not officially confirmed the product, its name or the leaked specifications.

The device is currently being referred to as the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra in tech circles.

Apple iPhone Fold May Get a Book-Style Design

According to leaked reports, Apple's foldable iPhone could adopt a book-style folding design rather than the clamshell approach used by some competing devices.

The phone is rumored to feature a 5.5-inch outer display when folded. When opened, it could offer a much larger 7.8-inch OLED screen, giving users a tablet-like viewing experience.

The reported 4:3 aspect ratio would also make the unfolded device considerably wider than many existing foldable smartphones.

Apple could reportedly optimize iOS for the foldable form factor, allowing the interface to adapt according to the device's folding position and hinge angle.

4.5mm Thin Design and Reduced Display Crease

One of the most ambitious aspects of the rumored iPhone Fold is its thickness.

Leaks suggest the device could measure approximately 4.5mm when unfolded. Apple may use a combination of titanium and aluminum in the frame to balance durability and weight.

The company is also reportedly working on minimizing the visible crease in the middle of the folding display. Ultra-thin glass and a new hinge mechanism have been mentioned in reports, although these details remain unconfirmed.

iPhone Fold Could Bring Major Camera Changes

Apple may have to compromise on the camera system to maintain the phone's extremely thin profile.

According to leaks, the foldable iPhone could feature two 48MP rear cameras, comprising a main camera and an ultra-wide camera.

This would mean the device may not include a dedicated telephoto camera like Apple's Pro models.

The final camera configuration, however, is yet to be confirmed by Apple.

Touch ID Could Return on Apple's Foldable iPhone

The rumored slim design could also lead to changes in biometric authentication.

Reports suggest Apple may not include Face ID because of the space required for the TrueDepth camera system. Instead, the company could reportedly bring back Touch ID, potentially integrated into the power button.

If confirmed, this would represent one of the biggest biometric changes to the iPhone lineup in years.

A20 Chip and 12GB RAM Rumored

Despite the possible compromises in camera and biometrics, the iPhone Fold is expected to deliver flagship-level performance.

Leaks point toward Apple's upcoming A20 chip, reportedly manufactured using TSMC's next-generation process technology. The device could also feature 12GB of RAM.

Other rumored specifications include a next-generation C2 modem, a dual-battery system and an eSIM-only configuration.

These specifications should be treated as reports rather than confirmed features until Apple officially announces the device.

Apple iPhone Fold Price Could Cross $2,000

The biggest challenge for potential buyers could be the price.

According to current leaks, Apple's first foldable iPhone could have a starting price of more than $2,000, potentially making it the most expensive iPhone ever launched.

The premium pricing would place the device firmly in the ultra-premium foldable smartphone segment.

iPhone Fold Launch Date and Availability

Apple is widely expected to hold its major September event on September 9, where the iPhone 18 Pro lineup could be unveiled.

The first foldable iPhone is rumored to make its debut at the same event. However, manufacturing difficulties could reportedly delay retail availability until October.

Apple has yet to officially confirm whether the foldable device will launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series.

What to Expect From Apple's First Foldable iPhone

If the leaked specifications prove accurate, Apple's first foldable could combine a large tablet-style OLED display, an ultra-thin body, high-end performance and a redesigned biometric system.

The rumored 7.8-inch display, A20 chip, 12GB RAM, Touch ID and crease-reduction technology could make the device a major addition to Apple's product lineup.

However, the launch date, final name, specifications and price remain subject to change until Apple makes an official announcement.
