IPL 2023: Dhoni threatens to leave the captaincy of CSK! Told the bowlers – stop throwing no ball-wide or else…

In the sixth match of IPL 2023, Chennai Super Kings defeated Lucknow Supergiants by 12 runs. Despite scoring 217 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs, the Chennai team could not win by a big margin and while chasing the target, Lucknow also scored 205 runs losing seven wickets in 20 overs. Chennai's fast bowlers looted a lot of runs. No ball-wide also contributed a lot to this. Chennai bowlers threw 13 wides and three no-balls. All three no-balls were bowled by Tushar Deshpande, who came on the field as Chennai's impact player. Angered by these extra runs, Dhoni has warned to leave the captaincy of CSK.

What did Dhoni say about the captaincy?

Dhoni said in the post-match show – It was a great high-scoring match. We were all wondering what the wicket would be like. It was a perfect first match at this ground. I thought the pitch would be very slow, but it was a wicket where you could score runs. I was quite surprised by this wicket, but we have to see if we can build on this kind of wicket after the match. We need to improve a bit in fast bowling. Our fast bowlers need to bowl according to the conditions. The important thing is to watch what the opposition bowlers are doing, so our fast bowlers can learn what not to do. Another thing is that they don't have to bowl any no balls or extra wides, or they will have to play inside the new captain. This will be my second warning and then I will step down from the captaincy. The only reason we scored runs is that the surface is good.

Poor performance of Chennai's fast bowlers

This statement by Dhoni has created panic in social media and the entire cricket world. Chennai's fast bowlers proved to be very expensive against Lucknow. Deepak Chahar looted 55 runs including five wides in four overs and did not get any wickets. At the same time, Tushar looted 45 runs in four overs including four wides and three no-balls. He also took two wickets. Ben Stokes spent 18 runs in one over, while Hungergekar gave away 24 runs in two overs. Chennai won the match based on spinners. Moin Ali took four wickets for 26 runs in four overs. At the same time, Santner took one wicket for 21 runs in four overs.

What happened in the match?

Batting first, Chennai got off to a bright start as Rituraj Gaikwad and Devon Conway put on 110 runs. Rituraj was dismissed for 57 runs in 31 balls and Conway scored 47 runs in 29 balls. After this Shivam Dubey played an inning of 27 runs in 16 balls. Moeen Ali scored 19 runs in 13 balls. Stokes could score eight runs in eight balls and Ravindra Jadeja could only score three runs in six balls. At the same time, captain Dhoni scored 12 runs in three balls in the last over thanks to two long sixes off Mark Wood. Ambati Rayudu remained unbeaten after scoring 27 runs in 14 balls.

In response, Lucknow also got off to a great start. Captain KL Rahul and Kane Myers shared a 79-run partnership for the first wicket. This partnership was broken by Moin Ali. He dismissed Myers. Myers was dismissed after scoring 53 runs in 22 balls. After this, captain KL Rahul was dismissed for 20 runs in 18 balls, Deepak Hoodad two runs and Krunal Pandya scored nine runs. Moeen walks Marcus Stoinis (21). Nicholas Pooran played some big shots in the end but returned to the pavilion after scoring 32 runs in 18 balls. Ayush Badoni could score 23 runs in 18 balls. Krishnappa Gautam remained unbeaten on 17 runs and Mark Wood on 10 runs.
