The shoe-throwing incident at Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai has been a topic of constant discussion. Both the ruling party and the opposition have condemned the attack. CJI Gavai's family has also expressed grief over the incident in the court premises. They say this was not an attack on CJI Gavai, but on the Constitution of the country. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands.
CJI Gavai's sister, Kirti Gavai, and her mother, Kamal Gavai, said that such incidents must be stopped; otherwise, future generations will never forgive.
Statement by CJI Gavai's sister
According to CJI Gavai's sister Kirti Gavai, "We spoke to Bhushan Dada (CJI Gavai). He asked the court to ignore it, but to be honest, we cannot let it go. It was an insult to him." If we don't stop such misconduct now, future generations will never forgive us.
Kirti Gavai described the attack as influenced by a "toxic ideology," saying that anyone who goes against the Constitution will face consequences. According to Kirti,
This wasn't a personal attack on anyone, but rather an attack on the Constitution by a toxic ideology. We must stop such unconstitutional behavior. If anyone acts against the Constitution, strict action should be taken against them.
What did CJI Gavai's mother say?
CJI Gavai's mother, Kamal Gavai, said that people should pay attention to the Constitution and embrace the core principles behind it. She added, "The Indian Constitution guarantees equal rights to everyone, but some people take the law into their own hands. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands and spread anarchy. I would appeal to everyone to ask their questions within the ambit of the Constitution."
What is the whole matter?
It should be noted that on Monday, during a hearing in the Supreme Court, lawyer Rakesh Kishore threw a shoe at CJI Gavai. During the hearing, Rakesh shouted, "India will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan Dharma."
Following the incident, lawyer Rakesh Kishore was handed over to the Delhi Police. However, CJI Gavai refused to file a complaint against the attacker, after which he was released.
Controversy over CJI Gavai's comment
Police investigation revealed that the attacker was upset with CJI Gavai's comment on Lord Vishnu. A petition had been filed in the Supreme Court for the reconstruction of the Jawari Temple, located within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Khajuraho.
The bench headed by CJI Gavai dismissed the petition, stating that it was a matter for the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). CJI Gavai further said, "Tell God to do the needful."
