Why was Rahul removed?

KL Rahul was made the vice-captain of the Test team in December 2021. He also captained the team 3 times. There was a victory in 2 and a defeat in one, but Rahul could not perform anything special with his batting in these tests. His best score was 23 runs in the last 9 innings. During this, he has scored scores of 8, 12, 10, 22, 23, 10, 2, 20, 17, and one run.

According to media reports, because of his poor performance in batting, the selection committee has taken away the post of vice-captain from him, so that someone else can be given a chance along with Rohit Sharma at the opening position.

If not Rahul then who is playing-11?

2 matches of the Test series against Australia are over. In these, Rahul scored 20, 17, and one run. The third Test will be played on March 1 and the fourth Test on March 8. If Rahul is not selected for the playing-11, then Shubman Gill can be opened in his place, because only Gill has experience of opening in Tests in India's current squad.

Experts opposed Rahul

On one hand, the selection committee snatched the post of vice-captain from Rahul and on the other hand fans and experts on social media are demanding Rahul's ouster from the team after his poor form. Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad even made several tweets on Rahul's poor form. He said that instead of Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, or Shubman Gill should be given opportunities.

Dravid and Rohit did the rescue

Amidst all this, captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid defended Rahul's batting. Rohit said that bad form comes into the career of every player. Rahul has proved himself by scoring many centuries abroad. If a player has the potential, the team management gives him opportunities. This happens not only with KL but also with others.

Rohit's saying is also correct because he has gone through this phase. After making his debut in 2007, he made his Test debut in 2013. After 2013, he could confirm his place in the Test team in 2019-20. In such a situation, he understands Rahul's pain very well.

Can't Kohli become the vice-captain?

No, Virat Kohli voluntarily relinquished India's Test captaincy on 15 January 2022. He was not removed from this post. It is clear from this that Virat does not want to take any kind of big responsibility for the national team. In such a situation, the team management will not make him the vice-captain.

Who can be made vice-captain?

At present, there are 3 strong contenders for becoming the vice-captain of Team India. One of the experienced batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara, bowler Ravichandran Ashwin and middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer can become the new vice-captain.

Cheteshwar Pujara: The 35-year-old Pujara has played 100 Test matches for India and is one of the few permanent members of the Test team. Injuries are less and with his experience, he can take charge in Rohit's absence.

Ravichandran Ashwin: Ashwin, 36, has played 90 Tests for India. There is also captaincy experience in IPL and domestic cricket. Ashwin may be the new vice-captain, but in overseas Tests, the Indian team includes only one spinner in the playing-11. Then only one of Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja gets a chance.

In such a situation, the selection of Ashwin seems difficult.

Shreyas Iyer: The 28-year-old Shreyas has cemented his place in India's ODI and Test teams over the years. With the art of batting responsibly and winning the team in difficult situations, he can become the new vice-captain of the team. He has also proved his leadership while captaining Delhi Capitals in IPL.

Why not Jadeja and Bumrah?

Ravindra Jadeja has less captaincy experience. Along with this, he also left the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings in IPL due to excessive pressure and poor performance. The problem with them is that only one spinner gets a place in the team abroad. In such a situation, it is difficult for his name to come into the role of leadership.

Jasprit Bumrah could have been a good option, but due to injury, he remains out of the team many times. Rishabh Pant has been away from cricket for a long time due to injury. Had he been present, he would have been the vice-captain of the team.

these players have no experience

The Test team also has players like Akshar Patel, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and KS Bharat, but some of these players do not have captaincy experience, while some players are currently making their place in the team. In such a situation, none of them will be given responsibility.
