3. Was reached to surrender: It is said that he went to surrender. Ashish, the priest of Mahakal temple, told that Vikas Dubey wanted to surrender for fear of being killed in the encounter. In the temple premises, he shouted and said that he is Vikas Dubey. He asked the security personnel of the Mahakal temple to inform the police about it.

The UP police was taking him to Kanpur on transit remand. On the way, Prabhat tried to escape, snatching the police pistol and firing. Prabhat was killed in police retaliation.
On Wednesday, Amar Dubey, also close to Vikas, was also attacked by the police. Amar was hiding in Hamirpur. So far 5 people of Vikas Gang have been killed in the encounter.
