
President Draupadi Murmu is currently on a tour of Suriname and Serbia. He addressed the Indian community in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname late on Tuesday night (Indian time). President Murmu said that a mini India resides in Suriname. He said that I am happy that the Indian diaspora in Suriname is playing an important role in the economic, social, and political development of the country. He has excelled in almost all the fields.
President Murmu met people of Indian origin living in Suriname at a community reception. Suriname President Chandrika Prasad Santokhi also attended the ceremony. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, President Draupadi Murmu said that it is a matter of pride for us that Indians have reached the highest positions in Suriname.
The President said that after assuming office, my first state visit is to Suriname. It is a privilege for me to be a part of the celebration of 150 years of the arrival of Indians in Suriname. It is a matter of pride for us that Indians have reached the highest positions in Suriname. Indians have contributed significantly to the development of Suriname economically, socially, and culturally. He further said that the policy of the Government of India is to build lasting relations with all its friendly countries.
Earlier in the day, Draupadi Murmu along with Suriname President Chandrika Prasad Santokhi paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Nafelsgracht in Paramaribo. President Draupadi Murmu also visited the Lalla Rukh Museum in Suriname. On the third day of his visit to Suriname, the President also visited the Vishnu Temple in Suriname.

The President also attended a cultural program here. During this, he said I am overwhelmed by your hospitality and welcome. After the cultural program, President Murmu addressed the people. He said that I am very happy to come here. I am very touched by your hospitality and welcome. I send my best wishes to you on behalf of your brothers and sisters in India. This is my first visit here, today is a special occasion. The variety of plants you have, the wildlife you have, and the pure air you have to create a good environment. But the diversity of the Surinamese people won my heart. India and Suriname have a lot in common. People from both countries mix easily. I feel like I am in my own home.
President leaves for Serbia tour
President Draupadi Murmu left for Serbia after concluding her visit to Suriname. The President will be on a state visit to Serbia till June 9 at the invitation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
