For the first time, figures on casualties have emerged following the US attack on Venezuela. According to a report in The New York Times, a senior Venezuelan official claimed that at least 40 people were killed in the US attack that took place early Saturday morning. The dead included both military personnel and civilians. The official provided this information on the condition of anonymity.
Trump's claims regarding the US operation
According to the report, the US launched a large-scale military attack on Venezuela. During this operation, President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were apprehended in the capital, Caracas, and taken out of the country. Earlier, US President Donald Trump, in an interview with a news channel, had claimed that there were no American casualties in the operation, and only a few soldiers were injured. Trump described it as a very complex but successful operation and highly praised the US military.
'Operation executed with extreme precision.'
Trump said, "It's truly remarkable that despite such a complex operation, there were no casualties on our side. The leadership and professionalism of the military were outstanding." He explained that the operation involved various types of fighter jets, helicopters, and other military resources and was executed with extreme precision. Later, during a press conference in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said that the US would now temporarily govern Venezuela until a safe and orderly transfer of power takes place. According to him, the US objective is to bring peace, justice, and freedom to the people of Venezuela.
Maduro and Flores to face trial in a New York court
President Trump called Maduro a "fugitive dictator" and said that he faces charges in the US related to drug trafficking and narco-terrorism. Maduro and his wife will be tried in a New York court. This entire sequence of events is considered the biggest and most serious turning point in US-Venezuelan relations to date, and the whole world is watching.
