The Central Government has announced to give the highest civilian honor 'Bharat Ratna' to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao. Scientist MS Swaminathan has also been announced to be awarded Bharat Ratna. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this on 'X'. Prime Minister Modi wrote about the three celebrities in three tweets one after the other and announced the award to them.
Earlier, it has also been announced to give this honor to the former Chief Minister of Bihar Karpuri Thakur, and former Deputy Prime Minister of the country Lal Krishna Anwani. Except for Advani, all four personalities will be given this honor posthumously.

He said that it is the good fortune of our government that former Prime Minister of the country Chaudhary Charan Singh is being honored with Bharat Ratna. This honor is dedicated to his incomparable contribution to the country. He had dedicated his entire life to the rights of farmers and their welfare. Be it the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh or the Home Minister of the country and even as an MLA, he always gave impetus to nation-building. He also stood firmly against the Emergency. His dedication to our farmer brothers and sisters and his commitment to democracy during the Emergency is inspiring to the entire nation.

PM Modi wrote, 'Happy to inform that our former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao will be honored with Bharat Ratna. He is still remembered for his work as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister, and Member of Parliament and Assembly for many years. His visionary leadership was instrumental in making India economically advanced and laying a solid foundation for the country's prosperity and development.'
He said Narasimha Rao's tenure as Prime Minister opened India to global markets, leading to a new era of economic growth. Apart from his contributions to India's foreign policy, language, and education sectors, he is remembered as a leader who not only led India through significant changes but also enriched its cultural and intellectual heritage.
53 people honored so far
So far, 53 celebrities have been honored with this highest honor, which started about 68 years ago. It was first given in the year 1954 to the first Governor General of independent India, Chakraborty Raj Gopalachari, scientist Chandrashekhar Venkataraman, and Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

During the tenure of nearly 10 years of the Modi government, now 10 personalities have been given the highest honor, in five names including Karpoori Thakur have been announced this year. Before late Pranab Mukherjee, Bhupen Hazarika, and Nanaji Deshmukh, this highest honor was given to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya in the year 2015 during the first term of the Modi government.
