For three years, many variants of the coronavirus and their mixed sub-variants are coming out. Recently the XBB1.16 sub-variant has been detected which was first detected in India but now it has spread to 14 countries. The XBB1.16 variant is the reason for the spurt in infection cases in the country in the past.
Due to this, this sub-variant is found in more than 30 percent of the patients. Giving this information, Dr. Vinod Scaria, Senior Scientist, IGIB, CSIR, New Delhi, said that the proportion of this new sub-variant of Corona has been seen increasing in the last few weeks. So far it has been confirmed in samples from Telangana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi, Puducherry, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Odisha. The states of Telangana, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Maharashtra have the highest number of XBB1.16 cases. However, due to the low testing and limited genome sequencing, scientists cannot give a high degree of probability according to the individual states of the country.
First met in Karnataka and Maharashtra
A senior scientist at INSACOG, who has been monitoring genome sequencing for a long time, said that the initial genomes of this new sub-variant were first found in Karnataka and Maharashtra in February. Genomic monitoring of the coronavirus is still necessary, he said. As people are getting infected and new strains of the virus are emerging, it is very important for people to pay attention to the Covid precautions. Those who have not yet completed their vaccination should not delay.
More than one thousand people infected
On Wednesday, the Health Ministry said that 1,134 new cases have been reported in the country on the previous day. Earlier on March 19, 1,071 cases were reported. With the increase in the number of new patients, the active cases have also reached 7,026. Apart from this, five people have died due to corona infection in Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Kerala. So far 4 crores 46 lakh 98 thousand 118 cases of corona have been reported in the country. 4 crore 41 lakh 60 thousand 279 people have recovered from it.
