The last match of the three-match series between India and Australia is being played in Chennai. As soon as he was dismissed for zero in this match, Suryakumar recorded an embarrassing record in the history of ODI cricket. Surya could not even open his account in the entire series. He was dismissed for a golden duck in all three matches.

It may be noted that Suryakumar became the first batsman in ODI cricket to be dismissed for zero in three consecutive matches. Surya was dismissed by Starc in the first ODI. Stark took his wicket in the second ODI as well. In the third match, Agar clean-bowled Suryakumar on the first ball. Surya could not even open his account in the entire series.

13 batsmen have been out for a duck

Let us tell you that before this a total of 13 batsmen have been dismissed for zero three times in the bilateral ODI series, but all those series were of five and seven matches. Before Surya, five Indian batsmen have been dismissed for zero thrice. Surya became the first batsman to be dismissed for a duck in the three-match series.

Indian batsmen getting out on zero

In the year 1994, Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed three times in a row in the ODI series. At the same time, in 1996, veteran spinner Anil Kumble was also dismissed for a golden duck in three matches. Zaheer Khan's name is also included in this list. He too got out three times in 2003-04.

Ishant Sharma is number four on this list. He was dismissed for three consecutive golden ducks in 2010-11. In 2017-2019, Jasprit Bumrah was dismissed for zero in three matches. Now in 2023, Suryakumar has been dismissed for zero thrice in a row. However, the batsmen who were dismissed before Surya were dismissed in a series of five to seven matches.
