Today i.e. Wednesday morning a major earthquake occurred in Taiwan. The intensity of this earthquake has been measured at 7.4 on the Richter scale.
Many videos related to the earthquake have surfaced in which it can be seen that the buildings there have tilted downwards, from this it can be estimated how strong the shock of this earthquake can be. There is also a possibility of people being buried in the collapsed buildings. At the same time, Japan has issued a warning for its coasts.
Many buildings in Taiwan have collapsed due to the strong earthquake. Apart from this, many buildings tilted downwards. People are trapped under the debris of many collapsed buildings. Damage was reported in Hualien city, located on Taiwan's east coast, near the epicenter. Due to this earthquake, tsunami alerts have been issued in the Philippines and Japan.
Taiwan's fire department said on Wednesday that one person had died so far. At the same time, more than 50 people are injured.
After this tremendous earthquake, train service has been suspended on this island with a population of 23 million i.e. more than 2 crore people. Along with this, metro service in Taipei has also been suspended. It is being told that a newly constructed above-ground metro line in Taipei was partially separated.
Notice has been issued to all the schools through public media and mobile phones about this earthquake that occurred in the morning. All schools and government offices have been instructed to cancel work and classes.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said a tsunami wave of 30 cm (about 1 foot) was detected off the coast of Yonaguni Island about 15 minutes after the earthquake struck. Small waves were measured in Ishigaki and Miyako islands.
Taiwan is located near the 'Ring of Fire' of the Pacific Ocean. Because of this, earthquakes always occur in this area.
The Japan Self-Defense Forces sent planes to gather information about the tsunami impact around the Okinawa region and is also preparing to evacuate people if needed.
China has not issued any tsunami warnings for the Chinese mainland. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii or the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam.
This is considered to be the strongest earthquake in 25 years. Earlier in 1999, there was an earthquake of 7.6 magnitude in Taiwan, in which thousands of people died.
