IND vs ENG: 'You wasted the opportunity you got...', Zaheer Khan got angry at Shreyas Iyer who was in bad form, showed class

Shreyas Iyer once again failed to score big in the second Test match against England in Visakhapatnam. Former Indian cricket team fast bowler Zaheer Khan is disappointed with this. Shreyas had a good performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, but his form in Test cricket has not been satisfactory. Shreyas got a good start during the second innings of the second test, but he was dismissed by Tom Hartley on 29 runs. Zaheer said that Shreyas had a chance to score big by playing well against the England spinners, but he missed a good opportunity to regain his form.

Zaheer gave this advice to Shreyas

Zaheer said- You need to understand those moments which are important for you and the team and I think that was the moment for Shreyas Iyer also. Anderson had completed his spell. Only one fast bowler was playing and spin was being used thereafter. You have top-level ability to play spin. So you wasted an opportunity. You lose your wicket while trying to dominate more. The kind of competition there is at present, you may suffer losses due to it.

Not a single half-century after December 2022

Shreyas has not scored a single half-century in Tests since December 2022 and Zaheer believes that if he does not perform, he may have to make room for KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. Zaheer said that the selectors can announce the team for the remaining three Tests in the next few days. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli may return. So if you have two players coming in, then two players will also be out of the playing eleven because they are the players who will directly take their place in the playing 11.

Shubman Gill is ahead of Shreyas Iyer in the race

Zaheer said, 'So if you don't score runs or don't show that you are fully prepared or that you can play according to the situation, can show maturity, and can contribute to the team, then Shubman Gill will be there. He is ahead in the race for a place in the team and you can say that Shreyas missed his chance.

Shreyas's test career

So far, Shreyas has scored 811 runs in 24 innings of 14 Tests at an average of 36.86. During this period he scored one century and five half-centuries. His previous score of 50+ runs came against Bangladesh in December 2022. Then he played an inning of 87 runs in Dhaka. Since then he has played 13 innings and scored only 216 runs. His highest score in the last 13 innings has been 35 runs.
