Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell have decided to withdraw from the IPL 2024 season. He has decided to take an indefinite break. Maxwell revealed the news while speaking to the media during the press conference after RCB's crushing defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday night. Maxwell has faced a lot of criticism this season due to his poor form. He was not even a part of the playing 11 against Sunrisers. Will Jacques replace him in the playing 11? After the match, Maxwell explained that he had himself asked captain Faf Duplessis to try someone else.
'Took a break to improve mental and physical condition'
In the press conference, Maxwell said that he is not in good mental and physical condition at the moment. So he decided to take a break. The Australian all-rounder, however, did not say how long he would not play in this league or whether he would return in the next season as well. Maxwell said after RCB's sixth defeat in seven matches - It was a very easy decision for me. I went to Faf (du Plessis) and the coach after the last match and said I think it's probably time we try someone else.
Maxwell said- I have been in this situation before also. If you want, you can keep playing and push yourself further into darkness. However, I feel like now is a chance for me to give myself a mental and physical break, a good time to get my body right. If I need to play during the tournament, I hope to come back in a solid mental and physical condition and try to make an impact.
'Was not able to contribute to the team'
Maxwell said- There is a slight lack in our batting after the powerplay, which has been my strength in the last few seasons. However, now I felt that I was not able to contribute to the team positively with the bat. This is why the results and the condition of the team are not good and we are at the bottom. I think it's a good time to give someone else a chance to showcase their talents and hopefully, someone can make that space their own.
Maxwell has taken a break before too
This is not the first time that Maxwell has taken a break from the game due to mental fatigue. However, now that things are not going well for him, he has decided to take a break and has advised the franchisees to use other options. Maxwell wants to use this break to come back with more strength and power. He said, 'Sometimes this can happen in T20 cricket. It's quite a strange game. If you look at the first match also, I tried to play well. I picked the length well. I thought I could score, but opened the face of my bat too much. When you are doing well, fours are hit on those occasions.
Gavaskar has also criticized Maxwell
Maxwell said- I am probably not away from cricket yet. For me, things are still that simple. In the first few games, I think I made pretty good decisions, but I'm just trying to find a way out of this situation. This can happen in T20 cricket and when situations like this happen, you try too hard and forget the basics of the game.
Earlier, the great Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar had also criticized Maxwell for his poor performance in the IPL and said that he was not able to play the fast bowlers. Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar said, 'He is not able to play fast bowling. Balls coming at his chest or shoulder height are troubling him. He can hit every ball below his waist height, but not any ball above that.

Maxwell also went through poor form in 2015, 2016 and 2018.
